    One of the best

The atmosphere is fresh and inviting. The food is delicious AND not greasy -- a very rare combination for Indian food! The service was good -- one of our dishes was too spicy to eat and it was replaced without question; we also got a complementary vegetable dish that was amazing. The menu seems expensive, but my friend and I felt like we were at a buffet -- we had two appetizers and two dishes, along with nan and the complementary dish -- had leftovers to take home, and paid under $50! If Chola is an option, I doubt I'll consider anywhere else for Indian food when I'm in New York.

    Not quite the complete package

This place is so nearly there. Great food, although I didn't really enjoy mine that much, bad choice on my behalf rather than bad cooking. The service though is weird rather than bad. The staff are really nice but it seems like it there first day on the job. All of them. Having said all of that, do go there. Its all about the food.

    Awesome

I'm not the easiest to please and I found this place to be incredible a couple of years ago and also last night. This place is impeccible on all points. Absolutely the best indian food, attentive service, understated, elegant atmosphere and the value? oh yes, it was definetly worth every penny.

    A spectabulous experience

My wife and I had dinner here last night. The food was extraordinary. It reminded me of the food I ate while I was in India (I am a gringo). Contrary to the other reviews, we found the service excellent. We were not rushed, our food came out in a timely fashion, and it was delicious. We will be eating here every time we visit Manhatten. We highly recommend this restaurant.

    Great food, mediocre service

I like the food a lot at this place -- there are some reasonably healthy options and everything tastes great. But the service does need to improve: it always feels like they are doing me a favor, and I have never seen a smiling staff member at Chola

    Great Food, poor service

Chola's food is creative, interesting, non-greasy, flavorful...everything you want in a great meal, but delivery is difficult. Eating in is fine, once you're able to flag down a waiter, who may or may not be condescending and/or disrespectful. As much fun as eating in is, it seemed take-out or delivery might be a better way to go. CHECK YOUR ORDER at the door. My order is screwed up 90% of the time, but I keep going back because the food is so good.

    Content Customer

I eat Indian at least once a week. I alternate between Dawat, Chola, and a few other midtown Indian restaurants. Although I am a vegetarian and cannot speak of the meat dishes, I have found the food to be, on the whole, fantastic. The delivery is prompt, rarely more than 45 minutes, and the food is excellent. In truth, like the food from many restaurants, the food quality varies, and although what I get one day is often quite different from what I got another day, it is almost always very good. I have only actually been to Chola twice, and both times the service was good, although not fantastic. For your special night, try Dawat instead of Chola, but if you're ordering in and want some truly fantastic food, Chola is your place.
