Four of us went yesterday evg at 9pm. From past experience when the cauliflower app is ketchup-sauced, I was sceptical. All four mains seemed warmed over -- except that two were not at all warmed. We told the waiter separately for each, who took them wordlessly and returned them zapped to lukewarm without comment. All quite bland. No reason to return here !

    exceptional food

I cook a lot of Indian food, and appreciate freshness and how spices are used. I have been to Chola now a number of times, and taken a number of different people with me over about 3 years. Several times, friends and colleagues have spontaneously remarked "This is the best Indian food I've ever eaten!" I find the variety and the quality and freshness of the food is great and some of the appetizers and main dishes are just exquisite. I always had attentive service, and they know how to make tea properly! Only once did I experience a disappointment; the lunch buffet, which is usually excellent, was dull and ordinary. I rather suspect there was a substitute chef and I can only hope this episode has passed! Several have commented negatively about the reception by phone. I would agree the phone manner is abrupt. But what do you want a restaurant for, the food or the phone reception?

    Myriad foods from India

This was my first time to Chola. I have been to other Indian buffets but they only serve Northern Indian food. Chola served an array of food from both North and South India so it is more representative of this country. The service is efficient. I highly recommend Chola! I'll be back. Every customer counts in this place.

    Rude, rude, rude!

Let me start by saying that I have never been spoken to so rudely. I call in to make a reservation for 7 people. The person on the phone sounded uninterested & rudely informed me "All 7 of you need to be here at the same time". We dine in the city every week but point taken.5 of us arrive and ask to be seated, my father in law is told that the reservation was made for 5 people but they will "accommodate". I walk in to realize that 2 of us will have to literally hold dinner plates in our hands to be able to eat. The host insisted it was ok and that he was being very accommodating as the reservation was for 5 people.I offered to wait if something would open up.But I guess he wasn't interested and simply told me that he did not want to argue any further i.e. please leave. And so we did! We went next door and felt very welcome. People forget that this is NYC & hospitality industry runs on reputation. Such a shame!

    Best buffet ever

I cannot get enough of this place. It is pricey but the food is amaazing. I try to hit the lunch buffet for the best deal. Definitely one of the top Indian restaurants in the city. also a note- I have never had a delivery problem, food ordered for delivery has always arrived promptly (I think30- 40 minutes is a fair timeline in which to take the order, make and deliver the food)

    Forever delivery!

Delivery took about 75 minutes, despite the fact that I live exactly 4 short blocks. Food was edible when it arrived-- a greasy, gelatinous mess but I was staring so it tasted okay. They gave me waaay too much food though- I will be eating it for at east the next two meals, ugh, at least I got my $25 worth (1 vegan entree and garlic naan)
