Overrated!!!
I heard a lot of good things about this place, so I tried it. Myself being Korean, so I know a thing or two about what constitutes good Korean food. My overall approval rating of this place is satisfactory and not what other people are saying about it. To give them a high 4 is outrageous!

This is not worth it.
After reading all the great reviews regarding this restaurant I decided I should try it out. So i walked 14 blocks to eat the kimchi & tofu soup and boy was I disappointed. It had no taste but i finished it and walk the 14 blocks back. I am willing to try it again but this time it got 2 thumbs down.

My Korean wife loved it!
Excellent, low-price place. The classic stone bowl bibimbap was fantastic. All the banchan were great (side dishes consisting of either meat, vegetables, tofu, fish, eggs or beans and many of them pickled). This was a super find and we highly recommend it. Lunch was $60 for three of us.

Best banchan in town!
Cho Dang Gol is my favorite Korean restaurant in town. I've taken all of my friends (both fellow Koreans and non-Koreans) to this place and have yet to find anyone who didn't love it. The best thing about Cho Dang Gol is its banchan (side dishes). One can always tell the authenticity of a Korean restaurant by its banchan, and Cho Dang Gol's banchan tastes absolutely home-made. Honestly, the mackerel alone is worth going back for! The seafood pancake appetizer (haemul pajun) is excellent and big enough to feed four people. The spicy tofu stews induce a feeling of profound contentment. The complimentary citrus-ginger-cinnamon tea finishes off the meal beautifully. Delicious!

Definitely the best Korean in NYC
This place is just great! I'm so glad that this place exists. The side dishes and everything else are excellent. Even though they don't have do it yourself barbeque, Kalbi is super yummy. Don't forget to make a reservation on the weekends to avoid long long waits.

Best in Koreatown
I think Cho Dang Gol is the best Korean restaurant in K-town. Their food is very healthy without sacrificing taste at all. I love thier Kam Ja Jeon, Cho Dang Gol Ssam Bab, and Oh Jing Uh Bok Um. Thier homemade tofu is very dense and tastes almost nutty. I took lots of friends from lots of different countries there, and they loved all menus so much that all of them became regulars. Very recommended!

Elegant and Earthy Korean food
Cho Dang Gol is not your typical new york korean restaurant. There is an elegance and artfulness to the food. It is "country style" food. Their tofu dishes are wonderful, and you can really taste that their tofu is superior. They have the best rice, which doesn't sound like a big deal, but you notice it, and it comes in a hot stone pot, which you can request them to pour hot tea in and you have a nice treat waiting at the end of your meal. This restaurant puts care into their food. Highly recommeded. They have soul.
