    Still has it!

I have yet to be disappointed, I haven't been here in quite some time but it's still fab. The crispy calamari salad - to die for! and now they have a happy hour until 7 - two for one drinks. Is there a better bargain anywhere??

    A dining disaster

Prices seemed unreasonably high but we were assured by the waiter that dishes were large and could easily be shared. We ordered two main courses for four. The portions were not only modest but the food was disappointing. The dumplings were boring and the duck tasteless with a very weird sauce. The garlic shrimp was barely passable but at $40 for 5 shrimp, it was a ripoff. We usually dine well in NYC so for us China Grill was a real exception. We'll be sure to stay away and recommend that you do as well.

    Bottom up

My kind of place to blow the corporate expense. Family style. Good place to bring my 'family'.

    restaurant week

Given the economy I'm not surprised that many restaurants are extending the restaurant week menus, China Grill being one of them. The portions are HUGE and if you got the same items from the menu you would pay double which is pretty amazing. I just read the last review and really have to disagree...yeah it's expensive but it's way better than Tao which is bland and way to loud and tries to hard to be trendy and not on fresh food.

    Not recommended

Now there's overpriced and there's overpriced. This falls into being completely overpriced. The food wasn't too bad but I'm not looking for 'not too bad' if I'm spending $45 on an entree. Especially if the place feels more like a sports bar than it does a place for fine cuisine.

Not like it use to be

if you want Pan Asian, go to Tao on 58th and Madison. China Grill isn't what it use to be. I took 8 clients there for lunch and the place was nearly empty for a Friday afternoon. Service was on the slow side but can't really complain. We had the calamari salad and fried rice with avocado which was good. Rack of lamb, tuna and cod also good but nothing to write home about. Crab cakes were less crab and more cake. I'd pass on it plus it cost a fortune.

huge portions I could not believe

I had never eaten at China Grill before, I guess it had slipped under my radar seeing as the place has been open for 20 something years... and I wish I had known about it sooner! The calamari salad is amazing, and massive, as is the ribeye... we also ordered a side of the cripsy spinach which I had heard raves about from a friend. It was kinda oily, but I guess that's to be expected when you deep fry spinach.. Never had an empty cocktail I needed replaced which was also great.. To full to try any of the desserts, maybe next time.
