Mixed bag - get to know the menu
I agree with the chinese reviewers here. China Fun is miles better than most of the mechanical UWS chinese restaurants if you stay away from the Americanized dishes. China Fun has a pretty serious commitment to dim sum, and their menu is expanded on weekends (try the roast pork cruller sandwich). Their dumplings are definitely a cut above most non-Chinatown restaurants. And if you stick with the chef specials menu or clearly regional dishes, and stay away from the KungPao/General Tsos/Beef and Broccoli axis, you may be pleasantly surprised. Other favorites are curry chicken pastries, turnip cakes, fried chicken wontons (almost like gyoza), shrimp toast, shrimp balls, pork&chive dumplings. Delivery is reasonably fast and always accurate. And they have a system where they know your address and CC# from your phone# - every restaurant should do this. After the renovation, the restaurant itself is a pleasant place to be.

too picky?! beware: take the train
After noticing the big renovation to turn a dim, dirtyish looking place that I would never enter into a reasonably pretty Chinese palace sort of place... I ventured forth today for lunch keeping my fingers crossed. The manager is not pleasant. My sesame noodles had only a tiny bit of peanut sauce on them, I brought most home and will put my own peanut sauce on. The egg roll was thick & could've been a toilet paper roll for all the taste it had. The tom yum shrimp soup? I refused to eat it. Esp at $7.50 for a small portion. But it completely! tasted like water with LOTS of red pepper sprinkled in to mask it's weakness. The manager was shocked and ready to argue, but I politiely said "I eat that soup everywhere, and this one has no taste." He grudgingly took it away.

So-so Chinese
There aren't many Chinese restaurants on the UWS, but this will do. I got the feeling it was a traditional Chinese restaurant trying to be a fancier dining experience, but fell a little short. The food is satisfactory (obviously not the caliber you'll get in Chinatown), but if you don't want to travel a long ways for Chinese food in that part of town, without spending a ton of money, this is probably your best bet.

Great Chinese Delivery
We love China Fun. The food is good; the noodle soup is very tasty and my fiance' like their General Tsao's chicken. The deliver was FAST! Great chinese delivery. We also ate there and loved it. Good food. Big menu, reasonable prices and portions. The restaurant also had a nice ambiance, was CLEAN and the service was very attentive. Definitely recommend.

Not recommended
The food is poor. The attitude is even worse. 1) They use tons of chestnuts to disguise as scallops in the prawn&scallop combination dish, 2) They squeez the vegetable dish in a tiny plastic take-out box and completely kill the vegetables, 3) They mix the gigantic chicken slices with litttle pineapple and green and red pepper cubes and overbook everything together, 4) To make things worse, when I pointed the above out and tried to make the manager aware, he told me that I was too picky.

Poor sushi
This review is to let everyone know that China Fun has the worst sushi on the West Side. Last time I checked sushi was not suppose to have any bones. China Fun is no Fun, but if you like pulling out bones from your sushi.. Order China Fun. Oh and the sushi was not fresh.

Satifies the crave
I mainly order take-out. And I agree with some prior comments that this is an inexpensive and reliable stop-gap to fill the "need." I am 2nd generation Chinese and need a decent fix of fairly authentic Chinese food, without having to make a huge trek. In the upper west side, this is the spot. I'm not saying that this is THE BEST, but I think that some of the negative comments come from people who don't order great dishes anyway,,, I rarely if ever order "Americanized Chinese Food" without realizing I'm going to get what the "Americanized" palate wants. The reason I keep coming back is because the menu has some pretty decent "for real" offerings that are done in a decent way. Most Chinese care more about the food than the service. If I want great service I will go to a Zagat rated place for service (and I do regularly). If I want quick, no frills Chinese, that is more authentic and better than your average "Americanized" hole-in-the-wall grease-pit, then I order from China Fun, among others. But it really depends on what I want. I think that a lot of the mainstream dishes at China Fun are just as lame as their competition. I would never order serious seafood from CF. And I think depending on what you order, Ollie's is just fine too. Just like I like Joe's Shanghai on Pell in China town for a very limited menu. And for any serious eating, I'm always on the prowl for the a great Chinese place outside of Flushing. As far as CF, I happen to like the sauteed rice cake, pork and chive fried dumplings, roast meats and various dim sum. Again, this is a function of where I live and how much time I want to devote to tracking down what I want. Hope this was helpful to anyone.
