I've been going to this place for 10 years and it has never disappointed me. The place is beautiful, but in a very chic and elegant way, not flashy. The service is always excellent. The owner has actually been listed as one of Zagat's most gracious hosts for the past several years, and I can see why. The food is absolutely delicious too. It might seem pricey, but the portions are quite large and the quality of the food is great. One thing I do agree with in the negative review below this one is the vague menu. Some of the items have odd names that don't say much about the dish. But in my many experiences the waiters have always been very helpful in explaining. It's pretty cool running into the occasional celeb too I've seen Derek Jeter, Mariah Carey and Posh Spice / David Beckham.

Chin Chin is the best Chinese in the city. It may not be nearly as trendy as the other big names (Buddakan etc) but it's very classy and great for business or a date... Generous portions, delicious food, always really fast. Definitely get the grand marnier shrimp, the spare ribs, the eggplant with garlic, dry sauteed string beans, steamed shrimp dumplings... everything!

After hearing my husband and son rave about this place, I felt compelled to experience this so-called gastronomic delight for myself. Yes, the decor is chic as is the clientele but it all ends there. The menu is rather vague in describing their plates so that you are forced to question the waiter. The chic black plates were scratched and chipped and I could not help but notice that the tablecloth was stained. There was no flower vase on our table and on others the flowers were wilted. Little things do mean alot. Glasses of water were served mid-meal but waiters were quick to take drink orders. Delivery of the plates to the table took an excessively long time. And then to my dismay, mine came loaded with chili peppers which the waiter failed to mention. At this point I decided against dessert which were lackluster ice cream or sorbets. So I ordered a simple coffee figuring they wouldn't mess up. Wrong again! I think this restaurant needs more polishing before I would recomend it to anybody.

I ordered the orange duck... it came to the table like a cut of slab in some sort of crust, bottom of it was egglpant and canned mandarin oranges loose on top ...WHAT!? orange duck is in a orange sauce with real duck either bone in or boneless thats how every other place in the world makes it.. i was dissapointed - i was sent there on request of some 1 who rants and raves about Chin Chin...

chin chin is not all about glitz and glamour like buddakahn or chinatown brasserie, but it serves excellent food and has even better service, which to me matter more than anything else. it's a really unique menu for a chinese place and it's expensive only because it's meant to be eaten family style. the portions are great, the tastes are superb, and even the atmosphere is nice. it has really clean and simple decor in the main room, and the backroom is an ultramodern japanese-looking private space with skylights. i HIGHLY recommend this place!
