There's a lot of Thai choices in the area but Chili Thai is hand's down the best value of the bunch. They have everything and more that you would want from a Cheap Eat: fresh tasty food, outstanding service, hip decor and music. Most of the other Thai choices in the neighborhood are pricey and service is poor--but not here. Try out Chili Thai, you will like it!

the food is first rate here. They are one of the only Thai places in the city that has Khao Soi which is one of my favorite dishes. The flavors are authentic and all of dishes well made. The service also fantastic. But the dining room leaves a lot to be desired. I don't expect tablecloths, but the walls could use a good paint job. re: pad thai, I agree with others. I don't consider pad thai to be meter for a thai place. pad thai has become so americanized, flavorless and boring.

Pad Thai is traditionally not a spicy dish. I'm not really sure why everyone has the idea that all of the food Thai people eat is spicy. Some dishes are spicy, others are not. Obviously in America you can order anything spicy but many of the dishes on a Thai menu aren't supposed to be spicy. Also, I'm not sure why people think "pad thai" is going to be the best dish at a Thai restaurant. My boyfriend is Thai and I've been to Thailand with him. His family didn't once serve me pad thai. We ate a lot of tom yum and curries when we ate at his relatives' houses. The only time I ate pad thai was when I ordered it at touristy restaurants.

out of all the places on 9th avenue, this is my favorite. in fact, this is my favorite in the city (not saying there's not something better, i just haven't had it yet!) -- i do love pam real, but chili thai wins hands down because of their AMAZING dumplings (kanom jeeb)..omggg they are stuffed to the brim, barely any dumpling bread (skin?)...and just...amazing. they also have a great dish, khao soi, which i've only found at my fave thai in austin (still not as good as madam mam's in austin, but whatever). anyway, chili thai can't be beat for satisfying your thai cravings. and ps, that dude who didn't like the pad thai is insane. it's one of my faves. maybe the chef was in a bad mood or something.

Wonderfully delicious and authentic. Their noodle dishes and all curries are yummy!! The value is excellent and unbelievable. You can pig out and still pay very little. The staff is very friendly, obliging and eager to please. They will even cook up something for you upon request and change dishes around with different protein. Highly recommended for taste and value!!

I had a late lunch at Chili Thai for the first time and ordered the Pad Thai with shrimp and a Thai Ice Tea. No one else was in the place. It was clean, but tiny (seats about 20 people). My order came pretty quick. The pad thai looked and smelled good, but was the worst tasting I've had in NYC. It had 3 shrimps, the sauce was much too sweet and salty, and wasn't even spicy. Where are the peanuts and onion chives? And the bean sprouts were skimpy. It definitely was not traditional Thai and not worth the price. Whenever I go to a new restaurant, I always try the "typical" dish. For a Thai restaurant, that would mean the Pad Thai. Given this experience, I won't be coming back.

We were there on Vday wanted to try something new. To our surprise all the food that we ordered were excellent. Never had such a delicious Pad Thai before. The chicken basil fried rice (which i ordered very very spicy) was awesome. The restaurant atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming. Small and cozy but would definitely beat a lot of other fancy dinings.
