    Had hoped for more...

Heard such great things about the place, but have to say I was disappointed. The reviews made this place seem amazing, but it was just okay. Our table ordered a mix of the specials and the everyday. Maybe we ordered the wrong things? Mussels were fine, but they usually are any place you go. My tomatoes tasted like beets tasted like oil & vinegar. Everything we tried was pretty much tastless and hard to differentiate from the other ingredients on the same plate. I do have to admit though, the best was the dessert. Try the chocolate cake and the creme brulee. Plenty of flavor there! The worst part was waiting for our check for about 15 minutes as we watched our server remember our check and then proceed to serve the other 3 tables instead. I will try this place again, but perhaps order something different or go for brunch instead.

    Some Like It Hot

I dined at Oskar's on 3/31/07 for the first time. The occasion was brunch. Both my guest and I were very pleased with the ambiance & our waitress (although she gave a bit of misinformation in regard to the side of lamb links; she said for $4, 4 links were served, but in actuallity it was $4, for 2 links). The lamb links went wonderfully with my french toast which was not overly dipped in batter and toasted nicely. The fruit was fresh and very tasty. The only issue I had with the french toast was that it was warm at best. Perhaps it was not made to order or made too soon as my date had the lamb burger and fries. He absolutely loved the lamb burger (as most people do) but they skimped a bit on the fries. I would dine again.

    Favorite Place

I started taking a friend here for brunch. Now we have brunch there twice a month. Then we tried dinner. Well we fought over the creme brulee til we made the waiter bring another! Now we have returned numerous times and always order our own. The food is consistantly excellent.

    Our neighborhood restaurant

Been going here for a long time. Love to show it to our Manhattan friends who claim you can't find such a great cozy place with such a warm neighborhood feel in Manhattan. A+ all around the board. The mussels and daily specials are always great but they also have an amazing cheeseburger (and lambburger!) and fries.

A wonderful place to spend an evening!

Exceptionally friendly, obliging management and staff, reliably good food, excellent live music on Mondays and Wednesdays. One of my favorite places.

    Dine In Brooklyn week

Chez Oskar offered a great Dine In Brooklyn menu. Interestingly, they didn't offer the regular menu during DIB week, but there were enough options that it didn't matter. The appetizer options were calamari, pate, butternut squash soup or tomato/mozzarella salad. Entrees choices were vegetable risotto, Cornish game hen, rainbow trout, or lamb shank. I had the rainbow trout and it was delicious! And both the flourless chocolate cake and creme caramel desserts were superb. The wonderful jazz quartet really rounded out the experience. They play every Monday until 11. I'll be back!
