well worth it
We had not been to chez Josephine for several years, but since we were going to the theater a block away we figured we would try it. I am glad we did--what a pleasant and enjoyable dinner. The greeting, the wait staff were all pleasant, efficient and courteous. The food was very good. I would definitely recommend it. The ambiance is a plus, too.

Lively Atmosphere
Love the atmosphere here - always up beat. Very good food too - Pre-fix is worth it - Before dinner

A Bit Overpriced
We sat outside, because the inside seating was filled. I believe the food & drink was too overpriced, but good. The service was quite good.

Tasty food with live piano performance
The ambience was very romantic and I loved the live piano performance. Food was not the "best best" but there is really nothing to find fault with tho. We (a party of 4) had prix fix with a bottle of red wine. The price was very reasonable for value. I recommend this restaurant.

What's not to like?
I wanted so very much to like this restaurant because I just love Josephine Baker. Unfortunately, it fell short. The wait staff was neither accommodating nor attentive to ME. The food was mediocre. Perhaps the full service menu fares better. At least the portions for some servings appeared more hearty. The lobster bisque took no time to arrive. It was OK, but not extraordinary. The mimosa was small for the price. It did, however, have a slight kick which kind of made of for the size. The French toast took forever and there was only one piece of bread halved and garnished with berries. The fresh blueberries, strawberries and raspberries saved a lackluster dish. I am giving the experience a higher rating based on the ambience, décor and especially the pianist who did an extraordinary job. I imagine it would feel even more Josephine Bakerish after dark in subdued lighting with sultry music playing in the background. Also , the prix-fixe tab was only $20 (not including the mimosa of course), which is comparatively cheap in NYC. The waiter gets a thumbs down

mediocre place
I reserved this restaurant for a birthday party of 4 and specifically requested a surprise cake (and was promised one). The cake never appeared. The food is way overpriced, and very mediocre. The space is awkward and not very clean. The host is insanely annoying and condescending. Never again.

Valentine's rip-off
My boyfriend picked this place for a romantic valentine's meal. We normally wouldn't eat in this area because normally touristy area's restaurant are not as good but we decided to try it because of the reviews and the delicious sounding prefix menu. We booked for the 8:30 seating because there was no earlier availability. The two main course my boyfriend and I had previously chose (rack of lamb & the steak were no longer available) and they were half of the menu. Instead we had steak which was tough and too chewy to be a decent cut. Plus, while we finished our meal we were subjected to a group of waiters who openly discussed their tips for the night. Utterly disatisfying and unromantic with NO class whatsoever!
