Place was busy and we decided to eat at bar and had a great time. Had glass of Picpoul, southern White wine suggested by bartender, very good. Shared a couple of appetizers and the beef stew, which we enjoyed very much. Manager was very nice and offered us complimentary crème brulee, which was one of the best we’ve ever tried. Glad we came.

We were so excited to Try this place out. I love french onion soup and steak frites. They were super busy this night, we had reservations so sat down pretty quickly. The server was nice but served people that sat down after us first... The bread was amazing (thank goodness!) I got the beef carpaccio and I was the best I've ever had! I devoured it! My fiancé got the french onion soup... It was warm, no bueno and we wouldnt get anything else because half the menu, they were out of. anything with shrimp, calamari, chocolate or creme brûlée, gone. Every time we ordered something the poor server would come back and say they were out, you could tell even he was pissed. The steak frites asted like charcoal, it was chewey, fatty and again, tasted like a grill. The fries, greasy and lifeless. Then when it was dessert time, we wanted the chocolate cake and creme brûlée. No more of either!? So the nice server suggested the chef special, caramelized pair with ice-cream. Whatever, fine. And also peach melba. 10 mins later, "we are out of the peach!" so the only thing left to order was ice cream and some items that weren't on the menu and seamed like they added it last minute (pumpkin pie).. For a "popular" french restaurant, horrible experience! All the customers around us were complaining about the menu being "sold out".

I fear that writing this review will reveal the secret of this amazing greenwich village restaurant, and i will no longer be able to find my usual seat. Alas, it's just too amazing to keep hidden! I have never eaten anything here that I did not thoroughly enjoy, but a few dishes much be singled out. Lets start with the escargot. It's cooked in a pastis-spiked broth with garlic, cherry tomatoes, and asparagus; and served to you in the skillet. The result equates something derived from the heavens, a tender, succulent dish bestowed upon us by the gods. You might find yourself thinking after consuming such perfection, that any entree would be a disappointment, but no. I suggest you go on a Wednesday night, which is steak night, and indulge yourself with an exceptional fillet mignon. Forget the over-priced and over-rated steak houses in the city. There selection is second to none. For dessert, you need but close your eyes and point to the menu and you will have made the right choice. But may I recommend the creme brulee; its perfection served for dessert and beautifully finishes this night of dining in this cozy, French bistro.

This place is so quaint, convenient, and delicious! I discovered it back in September at a business meeting. I recenlty took my fiance here for vday. The staff is all so charming, and the food is really delicious! I've probably tried half the menu by now... no disappointments yet! Although, they had sold out of the duck appetizer, no bueno! Next time...

I stopped by Chez Jacqueline on my way home from shopping in SoHo. Since I was starving, I went for the pre-theater prix fixe. It was so worth it. The portions were very generous. I had the mussels appetizer (cooked in white wine, shallots and other herbs). So tasty! I had every last drop of that broth the mussels were in. Then the waitress brought me a huge bowl of pappardelle au ragout de viande. It was full of fresh pappardelle in this savory, rich meat sauce. The taste alone was enough to pull me out of my winter funk. My meal was topped off w/ one of the three best creme brulees I've ever had. I like a thick, sweet crust on it and this dessert delivered. Just the right balance of creamy and crunch. I don't understand how anyone could say anything negative about this creme brulee.

My friend and I thought we would give it a second chance since our last disappointing visit in December, but sometimes you just can't go back. The escargot resembled nothing you would expect and tasted the same, the risotto was like a bowl of oatmeal, and the duck which was the saving grace would have had greater appeal if it were only warm. I guess there won't be a 3rd chance.
