Amazing place
Best sushi deal in the city!

Heaven in a hand roll
This is hands-down the best sushi for your money in the City. The rolls are delicious, fresh, and cheap! Be forewarned the rolls are a bit on the small side, but how can you beat it for the price! In addition, it is BYOB and even if you forget to BYO - the actual alcohol there is also CHEAP. The sushi is rolled with tender loving care. The servers while not overly talkative, are extremely friendly and enjoyable to look at! The atmosphere is good for a group of friends or a romantic date. I cannot rave enough about this place. Go - you won't regret it!

yum!
I see a lot of people complaining about how the portions are small, but that's because they use less rice in their rolls and that's how its supposed to be, you have a lot more fish in the roll and they taste great, plus its so cheap! I got 6 pieces of sushi, plus a special roll, miso soup and a salad all for 12 bucks! LOVE CHERIN!

The Successor to Sandobe and Jeollado Sushi
East Village sushiphiles may remember Jeollado and Sandobe from about a decade ago, where traditional sushi rolls were displaced by crabmeat-filled creations at these alternative sushi restaurants. While the two have closed, Cherin opened up with former employees who have also adopted the inventive recipes as well as the penchant for naming the rolls with English first names. If you miss Jeollado's Justin or Erin rolls, there are quite a few here that substitute nicely, albeit with different names. Don't go here expecting traditional maki rolls - you'll be disappointed. But with the variety of ingredients they stuff in each roll, despite the smaller sizes, your taste buds will have a field day. This isn't high end Japanese eating - this is a complete re-interpratation that's a little more original than the california or spicy tuna rolls you'll find elsewhere. And at about $5 a roll, I think worth the price.

You can find better sushi elsewhere
They have really good dinner specials (i.e. 3 rolls for $13), but the portions are SMALL!! The sushi rice is very mushy and the sushi taste OK. They offer creative rolls and the place was packed. However, the service was really SLOW!! Be aware that you would need to wait over 30 mins for your sushi!! I would not go back. It's also a BYOB place.

Beautiful Presentation, AND Delicious!
I stumbled upon this restaurant on menupages because I was looking for BYOB. The inside of the restaurant is lovely! It has a trendy, busy feel, with a little decor but nothing too kitschy. The waiter brought out glasses right away for the wine we brought with us. The sushi itself - fantastic. Cherin had the most interesting combinations of fish in their rolls, all with cute names. It took my table about 15 minutes just to decide what to get! Everything was wonderful. We all agreed that we would have been happy letting our waiter bring out seven rolls and just surprising us. We all felt satisfied, but not too disgustingly full when we left. It got crowded, so we could not enjoy our second bottle of wine, but the food itself was worth it! I HIGHLY recommend this place if you want great sushi, and to bring your own wine with you.
