Delivery
This is my third time ordering from Chennai in the last 2 months that I have lived in the UES, I keep giving them the benefit of the doubt because the food is good. So far every single time delivery has been over an hour, with this last time pushing an hour and a half. I called after an hour and they said any minute.... that was 25 minutes ago and I am still waiting. I dont live far either. I would absolutely go eat in for their food, I cant imagine that the service is that poor inside the restaurant, but they have officially lost my business as an order out restaurant.

Groupon Meal
My girlfriend had bought a Groupon for Chennai since it was in the neighborhood. We ordered Chicken Tikki Masala and Seekh kebab as our entrees and they were both great. The seekh kebab comes in a special platter and the presentation is really cool. I will be ordering for delivery from them.

The food was bad.
We had a Groupon. The food was bad. Poorly prepared. The meat was not eatable.

Quality is back!
We used to love this little restaurant and then the chef left and the new chef was disappointing. After giving it a couple of chances, we gave up. We had recently heard that it was under new management and gave it a try again. Food is excellent, service is wonderful and we now have a great neighborhood Indian restaurant again! For all of you who used to love it and abandoned it, please go back - you will be so happy with the new management!

Could you tell me where the previous chef went?
This used to be the most authentic south indian restaurant in NYC (yup, used to be much better than its Murray Hill counterparts) but now its just another ridiculously bad restaurant with greasy food, bad service and the total inability to deliver a quality experience. The food is an insult. I would love to know where the previous chef went though.

If you are Indian, you will be disappointed
I am from Chennai, which is in South India. So you would expect a place called Chennai to have South Indian food. Except for a couple of dishes from common to Tamil Nadu, the state Chennai is in, the rest of the menu is your typical north Indian fare seen at most Indian restaurants. The misleading name could have been overlooked if the food tasted good. But the food was disappointing. I am used to Indian food with flavor and spice. We got samosas, dahl mahkani and chicken tikka masala - all were very bland. Maybe if we had asked for more spice it might have been better. This was my first time here but this is below average for what I am used to from eating at Indian restaurants.

Great atmosphere + buffet
This is definitely one of the better Indian buffets on the Upper East Side. Food is flavorful, fresh, I really have no complaints. As a plus, they've updated the decor from the last time I went. The walls are a deep red that reminds me of vermillion--looks really romantic in the candle light they set up at nights. I'm taking my boyfriend next time!
