South indian done right every time!
I like this place. Little india is my bit of the homeland. So when I go out for Indian, I don't play around. This is solid south indian. Reliable every time. Hits the spot every time. They fine tune the uttapam to my liking and that's a great thing! The idli are nice and plump. Oh yeah! That's what i'm talking about! I'm talking pregnant idlis. Not a formal place. Not a formal street. Just a great place to bring a coupla two tree peeps and relax. Simply mahvelous!

Great place
This is the best southern Indian food in NYC. The food is really tasty. The prices are excellent. The service is not the best, but the owner is a really nice guys and very friendly. We have asked for off menu items which they not only prepared for us, but charged us ridiculously low prices for.

Can't Beat the Price
I don't know what some other people have gone in expecting, but Chennai Garden is an absolute steal: The food is plentiful and tasty, and just when you're feeling happily full and ready to throw down $30 a person, the bill comes and you're surprised to see that it's actually closer to $20 a person. At that price, what's there not to like?

Dosai heaven
Ever had a dosai? ... a thin crepe with spicy potato in the middle served with coconut chutney and a spicy lentil soup, sambar. They are amazing here. For $7, you may as well try it. The samosas and palak paneer are great too. Their aloo motor gobi is not the best I've ever had and the flatbread is not as good as naan. But the all-vegetarian menu and the many intersting choices make this my favorite Indian restaurant in town.

Very disappointing
I was anticipating a wonderful meal at Chennai Garden and was really disappointed. The malai Kofta was so salty I could barely eat it. Our party of four was underwhelmed by all the food.

Incredible Veggie Delight
The food is wonderful and the staff is extremely friendly. Order everything; you won't regret it. My friends and I go together or individually at least once a month. Every time we eat so much we practically have to be rolled out because we order so much and simply can't stop partaking in all the delicious treats. Highly recommended!

Great Value vegetarian food
The guys who wrote reviews about $15 lunch and Kabobs are not telling the truth. In fact this restaurant has lunch buffet which is the best value and taste I have ever seen and its pure vegetarian (there are no Kabobs). The buffet is only 6.99 and all the items are very high quality in taste and from the perspective of health. The place is small and as the food is so good, it gets crowded in the afternoon, but they also let you pack a box full of food as take out for 6.99.
