Perfect Bar
I stumbled into the Chelsea Grill at the end of my work day with a girlfriend for dinner before a show. I couldn't have been happier or more surprised. The atmosphere was casual but clean and warm. The food was better than I'd expected for the heart of Hell's Kitchen at a very reasonable prices. The service at the bar, however, was by far the best part of the meal. The bartenders (you can eat at the bar very comfortably!) were personable and attentive. He suggested the most incredible floral drink for my friend, who insisted she'd come back just for the concoction. I felt like I'd made friends with both the guy and girl bartender by the time we were done and will be back to visit them! This is a gem in the neighborhood.

Beware
This restaurant requires a credit card number to make a reservation, and charges $20 if you don't cancel your reservation more than 1 hour in advance, an insulting policy that I have not encountered at any restaurant in this price range in NY. Well-intentioned people in any dinner party can get stuck at work, stuck in traffic or on the subway, etc. - how much will they charge your credit card for that? There are so many great restaurants in this area of Manhattan that accept your good word I do not understand why Chelsea Grill thinks it can bully its customers into adhering to a policy entirely in its self interest.

Our new favorite place
My husband and I took my mother to the Chelsea Grill before the theater because she just wanted something like a hamburger, but we still wanted a nice place. We couldn't have been happier. We got seated promptly even though we were early for our reservation. The atmosphere and decor were charming. Our waitress was very personable, as well as efficient. And then the food. My husband said his caprese salad was the best he's ever hadand he should know because that's about the only appetizer he ever gets. I had some sauteed asparagus that were crisp but not hard, nicely flavored. The bleu cheese hamburgers were absolutely amazing and the waffle fries that came with them were perfect. All in all, a wonderful meal, very reasonable. We will definitely be back!

Neighborhood treasure
Visit to Chelsea Grill was a very positive experience. We were seated quickly, and attended to with friendly service. There is not a lot of help, but what they have is really friendly and service oriented. I had the burger with cheese, and it was very tasty. Cooked as requested and serviced with a nice cole slaw salad. I also liked the fries. My friend had the Terriyaki Salmon and it was also very good. Well prepared, and nicely seasoned. Not too salty, which is nice for a change at local restaurants. If you want atmosphere, go elsewhere, but if you want quality, value and a dependable meal then you should have dinner at Chelsea Grill.

Let down again....
A few week ago my boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place. He loved his meal, but I was very disappointed with mine. We both ordered steak cooked medium. Mine was totally rare and I sent it back (which I have never done before). Once I finally got my food back my sides were freezing cold and my steak was charred so I ended up not eating at all. The waitress did not apologize at all, and the manager was completely unaware of the situation. We decided to give the place another chance when we had friends in town. We had a decent meal and a few drinks. Once the bill came, we thought it was a little high. We added up everything we ordered and realized we had been overcharged. We brought this to the attention of our waitress and she took it reviewed it and came back saying there was a mathematical error made by the bartender and we had been overcharged. Once again, no apology...only attitude. So, to sum up if you want to go to a place where customer service is non-existent and the staff does not care about your experience, then enjoy your mediocre food.

Affordable and great food for this hood
The food was excellent, they have a couple of great cocktails at the bar, and the service was great. Best part about it is the bill was not excessive. For dinner, two drinks, splitting a desert amongst four, we got away with spending about $40 each (including tip and tax).
