Any time I have eaten in the restaurant I have had a great experience. However, everytime I have ordered for take out its been poor. When dining in the food is great, fresh and the portions are large. However, each time I have ordered out the portions are much smaller and the food tasted old. Bottom line is eat in and dont take out from this place.

This is without a doubt the best chinese food outside of chinatown in NYC. I have taken business associates from out of town who now call me asking when they can come back for more Chef Ho's! No lie! Their food is such a marked cut above the usual bland NY chinese fast food, you want to come back and try everything on their menu. The only thing I ever had and didn't like on their menu is the Banana Chicken, but don't listen to me, you may love it! Try the Hunan Shredded Beef, Crystal or Grand Marnier Prawns or the szechuan oil dumplings, all amazing. Sorry for my spelling and/or grammar!

This is awesome Chinese food. Period. I've tried a ton of other places in New York, and only want Chef Ho's!

I stopped in here to try the duck, figuring it would be their speciality. It was absolutely flavorless and bland. It tasted like chicken with no seasoning, and was totally dry. My husband actually had to ask for salt! The menu here is pricey and the food is very mediocre. The crowd was 100[%] white (no Asian diners!) and it did not feel at all like an authentic Chinese restaurant. They did not even have hot sauce! The Next time I'll stick to Lillie's Noodle Shop for duck or head down to Chinatown.

I could not disagree more with the negative posts. The food is the best chinese I have ever had in Manhattan. The peking duck alone is worth going there.

Chef Ho's is a great find here in the E 80/90's. The classic take out Chinese food dishes have not let us down. My favorite is the Peking Duck, be aware for 2 people only order half. My husband and I ordered the whole and had way too much food. The staff is great, yes as one reviewer stated they are a bit dated, but it feels like a family run place. The owner/chef (not sure what he is) takes control of the room and we've never waited more than 10 minutes for a table. We sometimes make reservations. They are absolutely packed on Thurs - Sun nights, which is a great sign. I can't think of any other neighborhood Chinese restaurant that is always booked. That speaks for itself! I've also tried the Ginger Duck entree which is very good and my husband loves the classic Beef w/ Broccoli. Yes, this place could use a decor update, but it doesn't effect the dining experience in my opinion. Delivery is also quick and good from the orders we've placed so far. I highly recommend!

I took my girlfriend to Chef Ho's for the famous Peking Duck they claim to provide and it was a bad night for me. First off, the place is grotty. It's dirty in there and needs a serious renovation. Then the staff, the greeter comes after we're standing there for 10 minutes and says nothing. I ask where can we sit and he waves the dirty towel he's carry in the general direction of the left side of the restuarant. Take our seats. It's not too busy. Then another 10 minutes passes before we get a menu. Then this scary looking waitress with the worst retro hair-do I've seen in years barks at us to make our order. We order. 15 minutes later we get tow glasses of water. No sign of the drinks we ordered - again the place is still not that busy and there are three or four floor staff floating around or chatting at the back. Our appetizers arrived charred, I mean burnt beyond edible. We look at the waitress - is she joking? No she walks off. We call her back, she ignores us. Some other guy comes over and we explain. He looks at it and walks off. We wait another 10 minutes, then we get up and walk out. This place should be closed, cleaned, hire new staff - chefs and waiters - then try again - reopen with someone who can cook and someone when can wait the tables. It was a very bad dinner and we never darken their doors or order delivery from them again. Rude and hopeless. Give it a miss.
