No Hype: Fast, Yummy, and a Great Value!
We were staying at the Park South Hotel and wanted to grab a quick pre-show dinner. I read the reviews here and thought I'd give it a shot. While I wouldn't say the food is *outstanding* when comparing all Chinese food I've ever had, I would say it is excellent (esp. for being outside Chinatown) and most certainly a very good value. The staff was polite and friendly, the service thorough and very fast. The atmosphere isn't anything to write home about, but the place was clean. and decent-looking. Chairs were comfy, bathroom was clean. Definitely had the look of a place that sees a lot of take-out business. We all shared: Chicken dumplings (fried) Island prawns, General Tso's, veg. bean curd soup (for child). The General Tso's was not superb, but good. The meat was tender, the batter crisp and held up to the sauce, which was not nearly spicy enough. The "Island" shrimp were huge and plentiful. The sauce was a little too bitter/citrus-heavy for us. The dumplings... Ooooh, the dumplings... To yummy for words. Not greasy, beautiful texture, held together well, many layers of flavor. I think our total bill (with sodas) was less than $30. I about fell out of my chair... I left on time, satisfied, and proud for having done my research.

OK at best
The rice and chicken were especially greasy and not particularly flavorful.

Don't Believe The Hype
I just tried Chef 28 delivery for the first time and it's OK at best. I ordered the General Tso's chicken and though the flavor is decent and the price is right, it is very oily and the quality of the chicken is so-so. Perhaps my standards are a bit high for inexpensive take-out, but I recently tried the same dish (among several others) at China 1 and the quality was far superior.

Great food and even better prices
This is a great place to grab a quick bite. The food is tasty and the prices are amazing. Neighborhood favorite for a lot of people. They always greet you with a smile, which is a definite plus.

Chef 28 is great
You can always count on chef 28, rain or shine for excellent service. The food is fresh and the hot and sour soup is excellent (always a good sign!). I have never been to the restaurant but our whole office orders from chef 28 2 or 3 times a week. One recommend is to ask them to leave silverware and condiments out, only because they send way to much.
