Living in this neighborhood you know the delivery options are not much and finding something GOOD other than Chinese is kinda hard. Found this place and I am amazed by the quality of the food and prices...we ordered so much because I thought with those prices portions will be small..we will have leftovers for days..lol.. She was super patient with me on the phone as I was trying to find my order on the "on screen menu" Great service...even over the phone you can feel how they would treat you for dining in..and the food was here in 20 minutes.....Loved it.... love it and loved it.

I don't know what Betsy down there is talking about...Chavella's has GREAT service. I can see the delivery taking awhile if the restaurant is really busy..but usually they are really quick. (Also, if you live five minutes away, you can put on your sneakers and go and pick it up yourself!) The food here is to die for. I order it once a week at least. The grilled corn is heaven, the enchiladas are great, the tamales are AMAZING...you just can't go wrong. I've sampled most of the menu and am never left disappointed or hungry. Also, their brunch is fantastic. I've only been once so far, but I ordered a sort of Mexican Eggs Benedict with jalapeno hollandaise and it was amazing. Wonderful everything means you get five stars, Chavella's. Yay!

I have ordered from Chavella's maybe 10 times in the last 4 months and have never had a problem except once when they were busy and said they could not do a deliver. I for one appreciated their honesty. Service in the restaurant is great. Not to completely disregard the other reviewer's complaints about deliveries but i have had quite a different experience most of the time.

We ordered delivery last week, it took over 1-hour to arrive and it is a five minute walk. I decided to try again this morning, as it is one of the few mexican restaurants in the neighborhood and Juan Carlos advised that they were "Too Busy" to deliver. That kind of service will put a mediocre restaurant out of business especially in this economy. I will never order from this place again as they are not reliable.

Hands down the best Mexican food / value in the city. The $3 tacos are aboslutely amazing - they are simple, well balanced and well portioned. Everything is very fresh and the service is nice. I order take out all the time and have enjoyed more and more eating there are the place has a wonderful cozy atmosphere.

After moving to the neighborhood from Fort Greene, my girlfriend and I needed a new solid Mexican joint to replace Pequena. And man did we find it. We ordered 2 or 3 times before finally going in to the restaurant. When ordering, the staff was nice, knowledgeable, and the food arrived promptly. Last night (a Saturday) we finally went to eat in. The place was packed, but our host/server told us it would only be about 10 minutes. And he was right, he didn't exaggerate or lie to keep us there. The food is amazingly tasty and well-spiced (not over-spiced). I got the Plato Don with chicken and beef. Oh man. SO much delicious food for an amazing price. The service was great. The place is pretty tiny, but makes up for it with everything else. The only negative thing I have to say is regarding the sangria. We ordered a pitcher of red sangria and only drank about half of it because it was way too sweet. That was kind of disappointing, but with everything else being so delicious, it's hard to knock the place for that. Maybe we got a bad batch or something, so ask to taste it first if interested. Overall, this place is terrific. The meat, the guac, the veggies, the tortillas, the flavors. Give them your business.

i am in love with chavella's. completely authentic, well-spiced mexican food. it's the best mexican in the entire city of new york in my opinion (and i eat a lot of mexican food). the restaurant is very small, but cozy, so it's not the place if you're looking for a super luxurious atmosphere. it's all about the food at this gem.
