I have ordered from this place half a dozen times and tried many different menu items to come to the sad conclusion that the food is dull, dull, dull. I really don't know how they manage to extract all the flavor from things that sound so delicious and have such robust ingredients. I've tried tacos, quesadillas, chilaquiles, taquitos and chicken mole all boring, bland and overpriced. Also what's with the guacamole, which is not worth your time, and no chips? I worked in Mexican restaurant and made the chips-it's not difficult-I was 14 at the time. Seriously. It really seems it's a place for drinkers not eaters. If you're interested in food there are 2 amazing Mexican places within blocks of this place. So keep walking and enjoy your evening out.

This is our favorite take-out spot in P Heights. We love it, and the food is always good. The only cOmplaint that we have is the consistent mix-ups with our delivery order! For instance, no salad dressing for the chavellas salad. No rice and beans for the enchiladas. No tortillas for the Plato Don; no shrimp for salad. Up until now we have chocked this up to the teensy tiny kitchen that they were working in, and are really hoping that the orders will be correct now that they are in a bigger space! But we love the good so much we can't stop ordering, even with the mix-ups.

Was expecting a more high scale mexican restaurant. This place is very small, maybe 5 or 6 tables. The food was just okay, nothing special. They told us they don't serve mixed drinks because they are near a school, beer or wine only. Not impressed.

Love this place. Great food - some of the best mexican I've had in NYC - at very reasonable price.

We order from Chavella's all the time. The food is excellent, for very reasonable prices. We've never had issues with delivery or mixups. Highly recommend.

I'd been warned that orders often got mixed up, but I took the plunge and my order came perfectly. And so good! This is a keeper. Had the trio of salsas and three different tacos and it was all incredibly delicious!

We've been going to Chavella's since they opened and loving the place. BUT very recently, we had our takeout order messed up 3 times in a row. One time, when we got home with the food, we realized that we didn't have insalata that is supposed to come with the plato don. -- went back and got it, to show their apology they gave us a flan. so we were like ok whatever. 2 weeks later Second time, once again when we got home with the food, we realized that vegetables that's supposed to come with plato don were missing. -- went back and got it, another flan. and we were like please please no more mistakes 2 weeks later For the THIRD time, this time it was the tortilla missing that was supposed to come with our order. PLEASE!!! - once again we went back, got it, got another flan. We live 1/2 block away so going back there is not that hard, BUT it's a PAIN if they just keep messing your order when all you want to do is sit down and eat your meal. Food is good and inexpensive, but this service problem needs to be solved.
