    Authentic

I haven't ever been to Mexico but I have a lot of experience eating Mexican food in various states, and Chavella's is the only restaurant I've been to in NY that can compare to the glorious fare you can find in California or Texas. All the ingredients are fresh, and un-Americanized. No willty lettuce covered in handfuls of melted cheddar. The tamales are exceptional. My boyfriend swears by the tortas, but I love mixing and matching tacos to get a variety of tastes going. Either way, you can't go wrong!! The place is small, cute, and crowded- but the patient, courteous staff keeps the atmosphere calm and pleasant. It's cheap cheap cheap, but it has ZERO baring on the food. They could be charging a lot more if they wanted, and still warrant a 5 star review. DELICIOUS.

I wish I still lived nearby!

I would go here all the time before I ended up moving out of the neighborhood. I would go here all the time! I love the food and the atmosphere. It's a very small, intimate restaurant...so if you attempt to take a party of 4 or more people, you'll ended up being a pain in the ass to other customers. Great roasted corn, taquitos, tamales, enchiladas, and brunch. I never had a bad meal there and I really miss it. I wish the owners would open up another one here in Williamsburg!

    great tacos!

Best tacos in the area for a very reasonable price.

I've had better food at a chain restaurant...avoid Brunch.

We were really excited to eat here. Our neighbor is a long-time customer and recommended the food and the atmosphere. We arrived right when they were about to switch over from the brunch menu to the regular menu...we didn't want brunch, but the waiter said we would have to wait half an hour to order from the regular menu. As soon as we ordered, he switched out all the menus in the restaurant! The next people to come in were allowed to order from the regular menu. Lucky them. Our food was mostly awful. The eggs were completely overcooked. The portions were large, but the quality was poor. The chorizo hash was a highlight - spicy and well-flavored. I could have made better huevos rancheros with store bought refried beans and saved the annoyance of having to deal with a nasty waiter who forgot our sides, was irritated at us for asking questions, and then ignored us while he ate. We may eventually return for the regular menu, but unless you want Manhattan brunch prices and school cafeteria quality food I would highly recommend you avoid Chevalla's from 11 to 3:30 on the weekends.

    great all around

I love Chavella's! And the fact that they have tortas on their dinner menu, unlike Pequena. I, for one, think their service is excellent. Whether dining in or placing an order for take out/delivery, I find the waitstaff to be friendly, efficient, and accurate. Park Place, your review shows a lack of common sense or courtesy. They are a tiny restaurant with very little seating--a large group completely fills them up, which in theory is a good thing. But I have worked in food service before, and the reality is that it can totally mess up the flow of a smaller place, and remember, tips are how waiters earn their living.

    grumpers

I live not even a block away from this place and it is the best Mexican food I've ever had. Their tacos and tortas are amazing and everything is a pretty good deal. Unfortunately the service leaves much to be desired. When you go with a small group, they are very pleasant and attentive, however, show up with more than 4 people and it is like you are an enormous burden - even when no one else is in the place. For their happy hour, they may ignore you until a minute to 7 and then tell you what you just ordered didn't count on happy hour. The service can be so frustrating that going to the restaurant is hardly worth it - thank god they have take out!

    awesomeeeeeeeeeee...

Living in this neighborhood you know the delivery options are not much and finding something GOOD other than Chinese is kinda hard. Found this place and I am amazed by the quality of the food and prices...we ordered so much because I thought with those prices portions will be small..we will have leftovers for days..lol.. She was super patient with me on the phone as I was trying to find my order on the "on screen menu" Great service...even over the phone you can feel how they would treat you for dining in..and the food was here in 20 minutes.....Loved it.... love it and loved it.
