Service was horrible
Went for brunch. Although crowded the place was not packed. The hostess was extremely unorganized, not friendly and had no idea what was going on. Once finally seated the service was horrible. We had to wait 20. Minutes to get water and had to ask numerous times for the check. Food was fine but we will not be going back

All around disappointment
I was very excited to take my friends to the Chat n Chew for lunch on Labor Day. The menu looked great. The decor is super neat and the place seemed very inviting. I just can't help but say, man was I disappointed! We had a table of 5 and the place was absolutely packed. Our sweet waitress was overwhelmed because she had SO many tables to tend to. Because of this, our service was poor. Our food took 45 minutes to arrive and my huevos rancheros looked like and tasted like it had been microwaved. All at my table said it was not worth returning to. The management needs to step up and properly staff and the food has potential, but $10 for a frozen veggie burger? Get on it. Your restaurant is in Union Square, NYC. People want fresh food and spectacular service and they deserve it.

So glad "Chat" is in my neighborhood!
It's a great first choice and occasionally a great fallback position when I have a lunch guest today. My family members who don't live here know it like they know the plane or train that gets 'em here, and they all love "Chat 'n Chew," the name and the restaurant. Nice menu, and on a recent visit when I wasn't up to my "usual," our great (and great-looking) waitress asked if I'd tried the BLT lately. I hadn't, and when it came, it was even better than she promised!

3 Great Starters & Chicken Pot Pie
First time at this restaurant and although the prices are a bit high, I was impressed by the Starters we had ordered: Fried Oysters, Sweet Potato Fries and Chicken Wings. They were not overly greasy or salty and had plenty of flavor. The Chicken Pot Pie (which was listed on the white board) was 9" in diameter and was delicious. I ate it all including the thin flaky crust. I would order this again!

Good service, disappointing food
I am not a picky eater, but everything we ordered was blah. We had chicken fingers, fries, mac n cheese, and a cheeseburger. It doesn't get more standard than that, but every single item was tasteless and not delicious in the least. I ate it because I was hungry, but don't you hate when you have a really unsatisfying meal? That was what happened, and it was made worse because everything was bad, there wasn't one good thing. Even the apple juice was starting to ferment and we had to ask for a new one. The service was fine, no complaints there, but the food was just disappointing. Will NOT be going back.

There are better places...
Was excited to read the review, figured the menu sounded reasonable, so we took off for Union Square today. The whole experience was kind of blah. we ordered the first item (eggs any style) and huevos rancheros. For the first item, charged us a buck extra each for a few pieces of onions and peppers (which we hadn't known about), brought half a piece of toast and then charged extra for another couple slices. The huevos rancheros sound much better than they actually were. Our waitress was pleasant enough, but it took a while to get a hold of her to place an order or even get the check. Basically, not bad, but there are better options.

Great spot to Chew!
Chat n' Chew is a place that I've always liked a lot. They have very good food here and the place is cool. You step down a few steps from street level and step into the sort of Hippi-ish vibed out place. Sort of reminds me of my uncle's basement in the 1970's. I've never been disappointed in their food and they have good bacon! Service is good, but they get to busy for quality take out or delivery. It's a sit down place to take in and enjoy. Recommended!
