    Favorite dishes at Charlie Mom's

So many complaints on this site, I felt I had to speak up. I'm a regular here, for lunch and dinner, and I enjoy coming at off hours when it isn't crowded and I can sit and read a book before and after eating. I order steamed chicken or shrimp with vegetables w/ brown sauce on the side. They're very accommodating with special requests. When I can spare the calories, I order sauteed pork and broccoli with honey walnuts, but it still has a light touch. No aftertaste with these dishes. Their wines are good too. The dining room has tablecloths at dinner, which is pretty nice for a Chinese restaurant. I've seen celebrity authors and musicians here.

    What Happened

I have been here a few times and always found the food very good and a great price. When back this past Monday with friends and was disappointed with the food. Ordered the chicken with honey walnuts but that's not what I got, the waiter brought over a separate bowl with walnuts, said he was sorry. I had recommended this dish to the group and two others also ordered this. I guess ownership has changed hands because I realized that I didn't see any staff that I remembered. I do know that I will not be going back.

    From Medium to Poor

We have eaten in this restaurant for 15 years and had food delivered over the same period. It has gone downhill. We had to throw our last deliveryinto the garbage after only a few bites. What a disgrace!

Nobody can review this badly who does not have an ulterior motive.

In general, I rarely debate matters of taste, but simply put, the few I can see who gave this place a bad review have to be either competitors, disgruntled former employees or they have no palate but are unaware of that fact. I have lived in the Bronx and Queens and I have become an unwilling expert in what bad Chinese food really tastes like. You can see it coming when they cannot make chicken with cashew nuts without breading and frying the chicken first (not at Charlie Mom's!) or they load everything down with celery like it's the only vegetable they can afford. Charlie Mom's dishes always have varied ingredients and lovely colors. Every now and then I have to go to Charlie Mom's to wash the taste and memory of the stuff I had around here off my tongue and out of my brain. Thank God CM's exists. They should go around to every Chinese place in the outer boroughs and teach these people how to cook. I'm serious. I can't even recommend one dish to you because I've never had anything bad there, I've only had a dish or two I've never tried that was not to my liking simply because it wasn't something I would have liked no matter who made it.

    What a cute extra bag

This really is the perfect place for a lunch take out. Other than most Chinese places the staff is very friendly - they even waved at me when I said goodbye. The chicken broccoli had lots of broccoli, nicely sauteed and the chicken was allright. A little too much sauce but I just poured some of it away. The best deal: for 6.50 it comes with a spring roll and a really cute additional bag that has different sauces, a fortune cookie and a Oolong Tea Bag. Nice experience. Go there twice a week now

    THE BEST EGG ROLLS!

I've been looking for this egg roll all over the city! Not too greasy, not too dry. Crispy and easy to bite into without it falling apart. ...And of course, delicious! My dumplings were a bit greasy but SOOO GOOD. Will always order form here from now on!
