THE BEST EGG ROLLS!
I've been looking for this egg roll all over the city! Not too greasy, not too dry. Crispy and easy to bite into without it falling apart. ...And of course, delicious! My dumplings were a bit greasy but SOOO GOOD. Will always order form here from now on!

the food tastes subpar
We read the amazing reviews with my boyfriend and ordered from this restaurant. Scallion pancakes were very thick and uncooked, sweet and sour chicken had a very thick batter on it, it was like wet bread with a sweet ketchup tasting sauce. I am not exaggerating, also the fried rice basically boiled white rice with raw vegetables in it. It is in front of me, 3 raw bamboo shoots, 6 raw sugar snap peas and 10 green peas. My mom cant cook but i think hers would taste better than Charlie's mom

Best in the W. Village
After Mama Buddha shut its doors, I was forced to seek another go to restaurant for my chinese fix. By far, this exceeds all the others. While it may be a little pricier, it is entirely worth it. The ingredients are fresher and tastier. The portion sizes and the quality make it worth it. My regular dishes are eggroll and shrimp with broccoli. Consistent and reliable food/service every time.

Still above the rest.
Agree with the poster named Delicious..I thought it was me! i took it personal...big noodle place across the street, the servers have been rude for years! charlies has the same old guys that will shake your hand when and greet you like family! the food is great..I take people there all the time...and recommend anyone i know who is visiting the west village...yeah the place on 7th in the 90's was the best..but anyone who wasnt there before would'nt know the difference and still think charlies is awesome..and and I still do.

Reliable
Charlie Mom is good, tasty, basic Chinese. My wife and I have been ordering from Charlie Mom on and off for more than a decade, and we have found few places in the city that match Charlie Mom's quality and consistency. The chicken is white meat and fresh; the beef, not fatty; the sauces have distinct flavors. I order cashew chicken as my go-to Chinese meal and Charlie Mom's is among the best (Wu Liang Ye being my #1). My wife swears by the steamed vegetable dumplings as one of the best foods she's ever eaten. We moved to the Upper West Side two years ago, and I still get Charlie Mom delivery--it comes to my Flatiron office and I bring it uptown. This says as much about the bleak Chinese landscape on the UWS as it does about Charlie Mom, but if it's better after 30 minutes on the subway than every place north of 72nd Street, well.... Bonus points to the friendly older gentleman who is my regular delivery man and without a doubt one of the nicer and more personable deliverymen around.

Flavorless and Disappointing
Read the sparkling reviews from others and don't see what the hype is about. Ordered takeout and found the lo mein to be tasteless, and the garlic chicken to be subpar. Very disappointing for what used to be a solid standby for decent Chinese food.

Best american chinese in HISTORY!!!
As somebody who has more food experience than most professional critics, I can say that NOTHING touches Charlie Mom's. Very unpretentious and old-school, every single thing I've had on their menu is either the best or in the top three I've ever had it. I would rather eat here than have a meal at any of the "celebrity hangout" chinese places that cost 10x as much. Everything on the "specials" part of the menu is divine, the fried chicken dishes (tso's or sesame chicken) are perfectly crispy on the outside and tender inside. The eggrolls are a meal in themselves and are the best I've had. The ribs are great, as is the house fried rice. Best Peking Duck in NYC, with an attached special that is a STEAL. I've been going here for 20 years now, and it hasn't changed. This place has a delivery EMPIRE. They deliver so fast you wonder how they cook the food in time (although it is always fresh, not pre-made) and you can tell that people like them because when you walk around the neighborhood, you see everybody throwing out their trash on the street in Charlie Mom bags. If they ever close, I'm chaining myself to the door like a redwood.
