    Excellent Pan-fried Chicken

Got this off of a "best of NYC" list for fried chicken. I've also been to several of the other places on the list and I have to say, while not as fancy as any of the others and farther uptown, this is one of the best fried chickens that I've tried so far. Their collards are good also, with a nice hint of bacon and not too sweet. The only other place that is better for me is Piece of Chicken in Hell's Kitchen.

    Definitely not the best

Went to check out after hearing they had really good fried chicken. Chicken wasn't really all that great to me. Definitely not the best fried chicken I ever had, just mediocre. Same goes for mac n' cheese. My cousin makes much better mac n' cheese for family functions. Space is small and run down. Workers were friendly but that's about the only thing positive about this place. Wont be back again.

    Great place

I randomly chose this as a destination to ride my bike to and eat. This is a place that I most likely would never have walked into otherwise. The food was great. Possibly the best fried chicken I've had. If you are into good solid food and don't care about fanciness, then check this place out.

    Down home delicious!

Price is excellent, the food is like your favorite grandma stopped by and cooked. The portions are crazy, from one plate two people can eat and eat well!!! The place and surrounding area is kinda rough but the customer service and the food makes up for it. Excellent!!!!!!

Buffets are needed in these times

I've been to Charles on several occassions, and each time I have enjoyed myself. In a time when Soul Food restaurants are scarce. Charles stay true to tradition. Although the location is not the best and the dining area is not glamorous, the food is delicious. The economy is so bad and its good to find an ALL-U-CAN-EAT Buffet in NYC. And get this, with tax it's only $15. This includes unlimited food, drink and I believe you get dessert. I don't remember because I am always to full to have any LOL. Now you must understand that although their fried chicken is famous, they seve other meats as well. You have your choice of turkey wings, pig's feet, and baked chicken. Also, they serve breakfast and other yummy dishes for take out. So if your starving, strapped for cash and just want to eat homestyle cooking in an extra casual environment...go to Charles and enjoy!!
