Charles'--the best fried chicken in Harlem
Went last week w/ a friend from out of town. The chicken was excellent--moist, flavorful, excellent crispy crust--and the sides were very good. Ribs might have been a tad overdone, but still flavorful. The young lady behind the counter really could not have been more friendly or helpful and I figured she'd take us for tourists (I live in Harlem) but she was just genuinely nice and helpful--heading back this week to do take out for a birthday.

Slightly below mediocre
The chicken is not crisp, the greens were not delicious, and most everything else was over sugared. With the exception of the black eyed peas which were a little tough. The sweet potatoes tasted canned.

Waste of time
Bad attitude spot. Tasteless, not juicy chicken. fake corn bread. don't go out of your way.

Still the same after all these years
I haven't been to Charles in over five years. The other day while riding by I noticed that Charles still had a uptown restaurant open. I immediately did a u turn to investigate. I was happy too see that the food still looked so good. I ordered my favorite meal which was the fried chicken, yams, with mac n cheese. Let us not forget a large lemonade. My portions were huge, the price was cheap and the service was excellent. I'm so glad that I have re discovered Charles again and I will definitely be back. Oh for those of you who are new to the area you must give his food a try. Also if Charles is still doing breakfast you must try his breakfast meals as well.

Finally a decent taste of soul food
I have tried every so called soul food place in Harlem and Charles Panfried is still the BEST. I ordered the southern fried chicken with mac n cheese and yams. The food was still delicious after all these years. The servings are large and the price for a dinner is still cheap. I haven't been to Charles in about 5 years and I was driving by and I just had to stop after I realized they were open. So for some decent soul food you must visit Charles and the staff is wonderful. The homemade iced tea and lemonade is also a must.

Excellent Pan-fried Chicken
Got this off of a "best of NYC" list for fried chicken. I've also been to several of the other places on the list and I have to say, while not as fancy as any of the others and farther uptown, this is one of the best fried chickens that I've tried so far. Their collards are good also, with a nice hint of bacon and not too sweet. The only other place that is better for me is Piece of Chicken in Hell's Kitchen.

Definitely not the best
Went to check out after hearing they had really good fried chicken. Chicken wasn't really all that great to me. Definitely not the best fried chicken I ever had, just mediocre. Same goes for mac n' cheese. My cousin makes much better mac n' cheese for family functions. Space is small and run down. Workers were friendly but that's about the only thing positive about this place. Wont be back again.
