Amazing BBQ
The pulled pork is exceptional as is the smoked sliced beef. They are without question two of the tastiest sandwiches I have ever had. The bourbon selection is extensive and of fine quality, and the staff is always willing to help you find the perfect tipple to suit your preference. I have no doubts that I will return time and time again.

First and possibly last visit
Went for Brunch. Food was fine, nothing special and as Char 4 is part of a movement of pricier establishments charging more and changing the shape of Smith St., fine is not good enough. And the service was subpar. They were out of the tea I ordered, our coffees took forever and then the regular was very bitter and the decaf while tasting pretty good, was only lukewarm. Request for milk from our waitress was first of many that had to be repeated to and fulfilled by another waitstaff person as our waitress would disappear for long stretches of time. Will be reluctant to give it another try - certainly will not return for brunch.

Terrible, ruined my night.
I had a subpar experience. I never rate an establishment but I am so disappointed I have to. First they sat us at a table outside in 50 degree whether while there were empty tables inside that they were "holding" for reservations over an hour away. When we ordered drinks they didn't have 5 of the 6 things we wanted. The last straw was when we tried to order starter before our main course and were told that due to the size of their kitchen all of our food would have to ordered at once... If I want to have a rushed meal I will go for fast food. I prefer to have starters and then an entree at whatever pace I desire. I prefer to eat inside in March and I prefer to not be treated like garbage... We left, went down the block and had an excellent meal devoid of pretension.

My fave
The scallops are absolutely amazing. For once a creative new recipe where all the ingredients actually come together and taste integrated. The sausages are great too. The side of kale with bacon is another keeper. It's just screaming for a nice red Burgundy. The bacon here is the real specialty--thick cut.

Great place
I rarely write reviews but this place is so good I have to give them props. It's a little crowded at the front but the hostess was personable and got us a table asap. The food was pretty solid, the scallops dish and home-made sausage were fantastic. And the staff is very friendly and patient, even when the place is busy, and surprisingly, the waiters actually know the whiskey's on the menu. They also won't push you toward the $100 a glass stuff. If you want a $3 glass, they're cool with that. All in all, a great experience.
