I have a theory on Thai restaurants: all of them are 4 Stars because all of them taste the same and you only order them if you like Thai. So they're better than an average 3 Stars but not a spectacular 5 Stars. Chanpen is 5 Stars. More tasty and less oily than other Thai places I've ordered from (a significant number) in Midtown. Worth ordering from.

Visited by chance and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Well presented and light sauces, crunchy vegetables and fruit. There was sufficent variety to appeal to all the family. Attentive staff the water glasses were never less than half full/empty (depending on your outlook!) The only dissapointment were the washrooms which could have done with sprucing up. They have our recommendation and next time in town we will visit again.

Had a great meal here the other night. The spring rolls and dumplings are out of this world. Although I have had better, the pad thai is still very good.

We frequent many of the Thai restaurants in the area (and there are a LOT!), but this one is exceptional. The food is tasty and well prepared, the ambience of the restaurant is very pleasant, and the service is quite good. If you are vegetarian, as we are, they offer a few dishes that are exceptional, such as the Vegetarian Duck Kra Praow: this dish is very flavorful and almost addictive. The Chu Chee Tofu is also quite good, a little more mild, and my wife's favorite. The other dishes are also very good. We have taken our families and non-vegetarians quite often, and no one has ever been disappointed! It's a little more expensive than some of the other Thai restaurants in the area, but again, we think it's quite worth it. We wish there were a few more vegetarian options (and a new Thai restaurant down the street on 9th Ave. called Cozy Thai just opened up that has LOTS of veggy options - we haven't tried it yet), but this one is still great. For comparison, there is another one down the street called Tiny Thai, also quite good, but the ambience is a little better here and perhaps more family-oriented, but more old-style and slightly less "hip" than Tiny Thai. Having said that, we often get delivery, so we don't frequent the restaurant as much anymore, but delivery is also quite fast. All in all, we love this place.

This is really GREAT Thai food. Everyone who I bring here agrees....I just fine it baffling that it is not better known.

Had delivery and it was good. I must say I was surprised. I had the panang. The hot sauce on the side was good. My spouse did say he'll stick with the Pad Thai.

I've been a regular at Chanpen for a number of years now. Never once was I disappointed. The staff is attentive, food is great and the atmosphere is always welcoming. My experience at Chanpen has always been an enjoyable one.
