    Excellent

The food is great. Make sure you have the mussels, hot & sour soup, dim sum and the desserts.

best hot and sour soup i've ever had!

chance is the chinese/asian staple in carroll gardens. their hot and sour soup is really good (so spicy and flavorful!) - sometimes i'll only order that because it's also very filling. they have a great lunch special (includes the soup!) and it's an awesome bargain! chance - thanks for existing.

    subpar

i feel bad giving chance a bad review because our waiter was a very nice guy who was genuinely trying. the problem is that the food is subpar, overpriced, and takes forever. I have eaten here three times. After each of the first two I wanted to think I had just ordered poorly. But after the third, I'm realizing that it just isn't good. I eat a lot of Pan Asian and Pan Asian Fusion. I don't know what is happening back in their kitchen, but it isn't good whatever it is. Apparently their name alludes to the fact that there is a chance, remote though it may be, that you will receive a decent meal.

    Great Menu

I love the menu at this place. It's different, diverse and fun. You can get tons of dim sum items and many fusion type foods. The atmosphere is fun and clubby without being loud and obnoxious. Great place if you're looking for something original.

    Love it!!

I went to Chance for the first time in November 08' for my duaghters 13th birthday with 8 friends and family members. They were extremely nice and accomodating. Everyone ate something from the lunch special where nothing was above $9 and included soup, salad and a dumpling or egg roll. The food presentation is wonderful. We ordered dessert and they surprised my daughter with a beautifully made sampler plate (which isn't on the menu). I've been back since then and the service food and value is still amazing. I love the Rose Chicken. It's a boneless half chicken served with a sweet/spicy sauce. The chicken is so juicy and tender and its seasoned well. For dessert you must have the Banana Coconut Crisp a la mode. It's a layer of slightly custardy coconut crust topped with sliced bananas and ice cream on the side. Heaven! I love dining in Brooklyn and Chance never dissapoints.

Good Food, not such good service

The seafood dim sum, trout, sea bass, and pork chops were delicious. I went with three friends and we waited about 20minutes for a table, we sat at the bar, I had the most delicious berry mojito. The bar is a separate tab. Our waitress was quite rude and wanted to give our table away because the 4rth member was running late. I argued with her 2x that my friend was on her way. The waitess still insisted that we had to wait another 20minutes, riduculous! We just sat at the table and she gave us rude looks. It is very small there, you are smack dab on top of the other patrons, I went on the coldest day 2/20 and the place was freezing but the food was piping hot, served fast, and yummy. It does get very crowded and is a bit difficult to manuever about with people coming in, the waiters bringing meals, and folks settling in at the bar. Folks kept bumping our table or chair. I'd definetely go again but not a Friday night, too loud and crowded. I found the prices reasonable for the quality of food if not service and atmosphere, sea food dim sum for the table, 3 entrees, and drinks around $90.

Some great, some not so great!

Based on all the reviews, decided to try this place even though it seemed a bit pricey for chinese. Some great dumplings- steamed shrimp dumplings were like little jewels, spinach and shrimp were light and tastey. The price seems a bit ridiculous - a plate of 8 dumplings were $13. The duck spring rolls were also crunchy yet tender. The thai fried rice was smokey with a nice little spicey bite. On the other hand, I would stay away from the chili chicken. The chicken was so tough, I felt that I was eating rubber! The sauce on the honey spareribs were yummy but the ribs themself were too chewey and fatty. The space itself was very cute and the bartender seemed friendly. I would try this place again but I would stick to the dumplings, shrimp, rice and possibly a few drinks since they are supposed to have some good cocktails.
