Champignon Cafe

This place has decent food but I only order from them for delivery. I am confused by how this place operates its delivery service. I have ordered from them many a time but their delivery is so spotty - several times i've experienced them answering the phone, only to tell me to hold on for a minute, and then had to call back only because no one ever picked up the line again. Tonight the same thing happened and I purposely put the phone on speaker to see if someone returned. After 30 minutes, I called on my other line and heard the phone ringing in the restaurant! I'm told that they don't have anyone specific answer calls - it's just whoever is available in the restaurant nearby the phone. Also, they don't have set delivery times. Sometimes they stop delivery early. I always get a feeling that they're disorganized and can't focus on delivery. Having said this, once you get through the quality of the food is good, the taste decent, and staff friendly. They just don't have their delivery together. Not sure that I can really recommend this place, as it's unreliable. I think that if you have a similar experience, the feedback would be helpful to the restaurant to get their act together and to consumers

I took 9 family members there on Saturday night, including 3 children and a few people with special food allergies. They were incredibly accomodating to all of us! The atmosphere is very neighborhood, very intimate. The food was superb for the price and the type of place it is. The service was excellent and the pacing of the food was perfect. The owner (or manager, not sure which) thanked us for our patronage and gave us a few dessert drinks on the house. I would definitely come back if I were in the neighborhood.

We have been ordering from Champignon for a couple of years. The food is good but in the last couple of months, their delivery has been very spotty. They either don't have delivery or take a significant amount of time to deliver (over an hour). They also often get orders wrong (ie wrong sandwich or missing ingredients). Our recommendation is that if you don't get your delivery within 15-20 minutes, you should call them otherwise you may have to wait a LONG time before you get your food.

I don't understand what could possibly make an order of eggs and pancakes take over an hour -- but I'm never putting up with that again. Incredibly mundane, as well. You're a restaurant in Manhattan, you have competition -- get your act together

I saw these reviews yesterday, and ordered the Penne ala vodka with grilled chicken - it was outstanding! huge portion..i'd say..for 3 people (if you don't stuff yourself that is..) I'm definitely going back!

I order from this place several times per week and am usually very satisfied. The burger, especially the turkey burger, are the best I've had in a long time. juicy, flavorful, lean, and grilled to perfection, all on a delicious brioche bun. french fries are just ok...if you order in, they usually arrive quite soggy. The penne a la vodka is out of this world, seriously, and the linguine with meatballs is amazing too. the meatballs are delicious and the tomato sauce is tangy and tasty. desserts there suck, I'm not going to lie. delivery sometimes takes forever...like an hour, but that usually depends upon the time of day that you order. I expect to wait a long time if I order during lunch, dinner not so much. sometimes the staff are very rude over the phone, and that is super annoying, but, whatever, the food is really great, so I don't care much. it's not a 5-star establishment, it's a busy catering business that does a lot of take-out orders. and, I am neither a friend or family member of any of the owners, just a neighborhood resident who loves this place.

So I like the sandwiches fine, and the place is reasonably cheap, but the grandiose review is absurd. it really isnt much better than any other deli in new york.
