Under-rated
We enjoyed a very well prepared meal with appetizer and drink for a very reasonable price in NY. One member had chicken, one had steak and one pork and all dishes were very appetizing without tasting like there was pound of salt used. A very pleasant dining experience overall. Would definitely recommend this place to someone looking for good Caribbean cuisine.

The best Churrasco
The two waitress one of them always smiling and the other one doesn't even speak Spanish and it's so called a Dominican Restaurant. It is a very nice and clean restaurant. The Churrasco steak with Arroz con Guandules was excellent. Very tasty. And ofcoarse it went well with the nice cold Presidente Beer. Overall, it was a very great experience. Will definitely go back.

Great Food but Lacking Ambiance
The greeting from the first staff didn't seem authentic. Walked in and went to the bar since they literally just opened up. I was going to leave, since I noticed they did not have a full bar..I only saw wine. But the second waitress - Sonya - was very friendly and introduced herself. She told us the Sangria tastes good and when I told her I needed something with a kick, she volunteered to put brandy in our Sangria and even let me sample it pre-extra brandy. Deeelish!! The ambiance and decor are lacking. There's nothing at all on the tables, not even table settings, but the background Latin music sounded good. I ordered the half roasted chicken with white rice and red beans. Sonya raved at how great the chicken was. I agree, the chicken was good and tasty, but I've def tasted better. The rice and beans were good too. My friend ordered the ribs and tostones...both were excellent! And the garlic sauce served with the tostones is the best I've tasted...and I've eaten many garlic sauces. Overall, I would definitely recommend Chabela's!!

good food, poor service
The FOOD IS WONDERFUL... flavorful and portions are good. I am from the DR and raised here. The food is definitely Dominican except for the PR and Cuban things they placed on the menu (that was disappointing). The wait staff is not good. They are not attentive, they dont introduce themselves, they seem to barely know how to describe the food items and they can hardly be found on the dining room floor. I have been there twice, once to pick up food, and a friend of mine has gone as well. They had a similar feeling. Where is the hostess on the weekend? They should ask us how our meal is and if we can use something else. When I went to eat in with my boyfriend there were two waitresses chatting, snacking on the side and only came up to us once to we had already finished our meal...that is unacceptable.

Loved the food but it needs more of a Dominican Style
The Food itself was great. Enjoyed the Mofongo with Pork and the Morir Sonando shake. The waitress was very attentive and very friendly. I just feel it needs more of a Dominican Island style look to it.

Not a great restuarant experience
This restaurant needs help! I think the feel of the space is almost at its potential, but I do not believe that just having spanish music or a video of a concert is going to create a feel. It needs more ambiance....instead they have sports showing on 2 tvs and one has a spanish concert. From the menu I could not tell it was a "Dominican" restuarant. There are hundreds of spanish restaurants downtown and many set themselves apart with unique themes or styles...they need to take a cue from them. The food was ok, nothing to rave about. One of the waitresses was EXTREMELY rude and not attentive. I wish they had name tags but they didn't, I just remember her being short and her spanish was not very good. I asked for the manager at one point and she never came to the talk. She seemed to be a little everywhere. This is a new restuarant so it needs some time, but I think they desparately need a bar, some new friendly and spanish speaking staff, a manager that has things together, and work on the atmosphere and presentation...

Yummy Food..Great Service..Pleasant atmosphere!
My husband and I checked out this place last weekend. We were walking down avenue B and Chabela's caught our attention... The food was excellent.. The plantain chips with salsa they give were delish! The service was great.. The waitress was very attentive and friendly.. We left very satisfied and will def go back for the yummy churrasco and camarones al ajillo.. It's great to have a Dominican restaurant in the neighborhood..
