disappointing meatballs
Went here with a living social deal. Not worth it. First, they were slow to seat us, even though the place was pretty much empty and did not fill up at all by the time we left. Second, the meatballs were dry and tasted like they were the frozen kind you buy at the grocery store. The special soppressata pasta was very good, but the portion was too small for the $$.There are much better places in this neighborhood.

Baccala' mantecato
for the first time in my life I had the baccala' mantecato crostini , which was suggested by my server. Honestly, I did not know what to expect, but... It was amazing! this venetian cod dish melts in your mouth and you do not even realize that you are eating cod fish. and the beauty was also that they suggested a new white wine from Italy , Cocociola, fresh and crisp ..fantastic pairing with my new dish. wonderful, wonderful expierience.

Great find
We were in the East Village, where we tend to be disappointed by the food, but were thrilled to find this place. It's a great, romantic space inside; the staff is very friendly and efficient; and the food was superb at pretty good prices. I'm definitely coming back.

A great restaurant
I go back to NY every yr to visit family and friends. I went to Cellar 58 when it first opened last yr. and it was fantastic. When I was home last week I had to return to a great find. I always have a few favorites and this is now on my list. The menue has changed and is even better! I could only eat so much but I tried as many items as possible. Now I want to go back to NY more often!!!

on a late night stroll
While on a late night stroll on a Friday night, we were looking for a place to have a small bite and cocktail. The lobster ravioli, read from the board outside drew us inside. It was after 10pm and they were out. We opted to share an order of calamari - perfectly done- and a salad of corn, fennel, cucumbers, onions and yummy avocado, with a glass each of sangria. The sangria was the only disappointment and when we mentioned how particular we both are about sangria, it was graciously removed and replaced with refreshing glasses of a Portuguese wine. Cellar 58 was a nice find. We'll be back for other menu items as we really were digging the atmosphere as well. The music selections were a surprise. Appropriate for a Friday night, yet not attracting the rest of the bar crawlers on the avenue...

good enough with hit or miss service
The food is pretty good - like the truffle lasagna a lot, but some of the other main courses are so-so and don't stand out at all. I went with a large group, which mandated a 20% tip. What followed was very very poor service - we repeatedly had to search for our waiter/s, who barely came to check on us and really just didn't try at all because they didn't need to, I guess. This was a BIG turnoff to this place, and I would absolutely hesitate to go with a big group again (I certainly wouldn't chose to). I would however, go for the happy hour special, which is a good deal.

MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT
Cellar 58 has become my favorite restaurant! I had a lovely time at this wine bar, intimate and cozy. There is a selection of wine from all over the world and the food it's delicious: the Chef Andrea can make a lasagna to die for! Rich plates and inexpensive...GREAT!
