2 of my friends and I walked into Celeste, it being the first place we stumbled upon. Did we make a mistake! The owner of the restaurant was sitting in the back corner and yelled across the restaurant asking how many will we be for dinner. After telling him there are 3 of us he pointed at a table close to him and yelled "Here!". We sat down and ordered appetizers and main courses. After the appetizers arrived one of our friends called saying she'd meet us at the restaurant since she got out of work early. She arrived right after we received our main course. She spent a couple of minutes looking over the menu and when she asked the waiter if she can order something he proceeded to tell us that according to their policy they do not let someone order if they arrived after the rest of their party has ordered. The restaurant was EMPTY! There were about 8 other people in the whole restaurant and the owner refused to cook something for our friend since she arrived late. We were shocked. We even let him know we were still planning on ordering another dish for 2 of us since the main course was a lot smaller than we expected. They did not let us order anything else except for dessert, which of course we refused. Regarding the food itself, it was extremely bland and oily. They need to learn that some salt and pepper can go a long way.

Probably the most obnoxious restaurant service I have ever experienced. For a hole-in-the-wall Italian place, the staff acts as if they were all Keller himself at Per Se. Go if you want, but be prepared to wait 30-40 minutes to even have your order taken, and then be prepared to be ignored until you get your food, after which you have 10 minutes to pay up.

The food was okay, but the service was awful. The owner is racist. Please do not justify his behavior by eating at his restaurant. My jewish friend and I, a Korean American, were denied dessert after we had ordered appetizers, entrees, and a bottle of wine. The owner said that we had already been there for one hour and that there were people waiting. There was no one waiting and there were at least two empty table around us. Also, since when is it not appropriate to spend an hour at a supposedly nice restaurant for dinner? He proceeded to force us out of the restaurant saying that he did not want to hear what we had to say. This has been a humiliating and saddening experience. To think that there are still such ignorant people existing in such a diverse city as New York makes me sick.

I ordered the gnocchi and my friend ordered the ravioli and they were both to die for! It was the freshest Italian meal I've had in NYC. We ordered the cheese plate for dessert which I would highly recommend since the charming owner explains each cheese and flavors they are paired best with. It was Saturday night and we had to wait about 15 minutes but it was well worth it. So affordable too!

My husband and I are so happy a friend told us about Celeste a few years ago. We go there at least once a month and love it! You won't get a better meal at a better value in the city. They could charge much more but don't. The owner is friendly and makes an effort to get to know his patrons. Our favorite restaurant in the city....even above our fine-dining favorites! No wonder it is always packed! That's a good sign!

The place is super cramped. I went with my boyfriend and we had people sitting pretty much right next to us, right behind us, right in front. Poor in the sense that they try to take advantage of every little nook in the spot. We ordered pizza and the one with basil was our favorite. The food was good but I don't know if I would go back because its pretty much uncomfortable to have people on top of you. I would do take out.

Expect to wait at least 20 minutes and than receive a table that rocks, jammed up to people on both sides of you. The owner is very annoying running around the cramped restaurant trying to moves tables asap while collecting payment from patrons. You can tell he's more concerned about making money than having an enjoyable dining experience for his patrons. The waiters are also very annoying with heavy spanish accents who will ask you a dozen times "want more wine, dessert" etc if you say no expect the bll shoved in your face.
