    Like family dinner in italy!

Went here last Sunday with a party of 9 to celebrate a friends birthday. We were cramped at 3 small tables but that wasnt a problem, it was really fun! Felt like we were having a big family dinner in Italy. Food was delish. Owner was friendly. Will absolutely go back!

    Lost its charm

I WAS a regular...the last few times dining here left me feeling like I was being "processed" through, very rushed. Eating three courses with a bottle of wine should mean it's okay to sit for more than 1 hr. This last time, after we said we'd need a few more minutes to order the waiter told us he'd be back in two and we would have to be ready. Then we were told we'd have to leave as the waiter placed the check down without our asking for it (yes, in Europe they place down the bill without your asking, but they don't tell you to leave) . The food isn't so great that it's worth this treatment, there are plenty of other options in the area with better food and better service.

    Great little place!

I am surpirised by some of the reviews here - but then if someone is saying its better to have a jar of sauce - them perhaps you are wsting your time on that review. The place is small - read cosy; it is loud - read lively atmosphere, the service is relaxed - read they are not pushing the check under your nose before you have put down your fork; the food is homemade and authentic - read very tasty - if you want bland stodge then go to Pizza Unos or someother non descript freezer food place. Celeste is a great find - the owner is the best thing about the place - he is hysterical. C'mon people relax - a bit of atmosphere never did you any harm did it??

    One of My Favorites

I have tried everything on the menu. Love the pizzas, fish dishes and most of all the fried artichokes. The owner and waiters are courteous. Once the owner stored my suitcase in his car while I ate because I rushed their after a weekend getaway. They age their own cheese and serve it with chestnut honey. Amazing! Great wines, tasy cappucino and smooth gelato make a great meal. My highest recommendations!

    Some good items

The tagliatelle was excellent, but the gnocchi was bland and the penne was soso. The fried cheese appetizer was interesting though. Would come again to try the pizza. Service was fine, though the place is quite small and cramped.

Best authentic trattoria style on the upside

I just read all these poor reviews and can't believe it. Its not the most convenient place. Tight quarters, kind of loud and there's usually a wait. But its worth the wait. Proprietor can always be found on premises and he is always very accommodating. Food is always fresh and very tasty. For the price its a no brainer. My husband is Italian. We eat here all the time. One of his faves.

    I Don't Get It

I keep reading and hearing amazing things about Celeste. I am beyond confused by the hype. The food was beyond bland. It had zero flavor and to say I was disappointed doesn't even cut it. There are so many delicious italian restaurants in NYC i can't understand why anyone would come here. You can have a better italian dinner experience with a box of barilla pasta and a jar of sauce.
