    great little spot

My family and I stopped in for dinner late on a Sunday night and the food was excellent. We had the pasta with eggplant, the salad with avocado and shrimp and scallops with lentils. The food was flavorful and fresh and the portions generous. We just moved into the neighborhood and were so happy to find a great Italian spot. The service was a little lax, but seeing as we were the last reservation to slide in before closing, I can be a bit forgiving. We'll definitely be going back to this place again. Have the pear and gorgonzola puff pastry to start!

Service leaves much to be desired

Live in the neighborhood & walked by so many times with intention to stop in. Finally when a friend suggested we meet for some wine and a quick bite to eat, I immediately thought of this place. It's the 3rd Ave location by the way. Food was pretty good and wine selection great, but the waitress - wow she really needs to get a personality. We tried engaging her a few times in some light banter, but she just had nothing to give. Was actually rude. Disappointed as I thought I'd make this my neighborhood spot to go do some work, writing, drinking, laughing, etc..but if wimpy waitress is there, I doubt that will happen. Too bad, had such high hopes for the place.

    poor attitude

Generally I find wine bars to be friendly and encouraging when it comes to trying new wines. NOT THIS PLACE! Go in and ask for a taste before ordering and you'll get a sigh and "only if the bottle happens to be open." And on top of that, the two wines we tasted were no good- as if the bottles had been sitting open for days. Don't waste your time.

    This place ROCK!

Small, yes but impressive. Huge amount of wine by the glass, and the food, a lot of it and without a real kitchen....cool. The price is right too, so no brainer..

    Weird.

Wish this place was better. Have been 4 or 5 times. Each time has been plagued by some sort of awkwardness....like the time they served me a bottle of wine 5 minutes before they closed and then told me 5 minutes later that they were closed. Hmm. Perhaps they should have sold me the glass, instead? Or the time the owner or manager rolled his eyes at me? I'm sorry, 20.02% tip on one bottle of wine wasn't enough? Superficial decor, poor attitude from staff, mediocre food quality. I was served a corked bottle of wine once, second time I went in the bottle I ordered was oxidized. Both times the manager rolled his eyes and was passive aggressive for me saying something. Poor quality overall. For the price point I realize every bottle isn't going to be great but a corked bottle is a corked bottle and that's no excuse for the food or the attitude.

Come here to relax and meet cool people!

This place is great. We have lived in the neighborhood for a while but had never been. Although the place is quite small, we got the last two seats at the communal table. At first, its a bit strange getting used to sitting RIGHT next to others, but we ended up befriending the guys on one side and had a great time. The food is really good, the wine was delicious and the decor is lovely. We will definitely go back.

    Fantastic Little Wine Bar

I discovered Cavatappo about 2 months ago. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. The cheeses and olives are delicious. The place is cozy and there is a communal table which makes it easy to make new friends. It has a very European vibe. On Sunday's after 4PM selected wines by the glass are 1/2 price.
