    Paltry portions Exorbitant prices

Our host was friendly and accommodating. I found the atmosphere to be lively and loud. This made the music playing almost inaudible and trivial. Food is good but overpriced. Don't order wine here, they only pour a third up into the small wine glass. Also when they "refill" it, it will only be a quarter full but they will charge full price.

    whats all the hype about?

Can someone explain to me what all the hype is about? Went for dinner one saturday night. The rather disinterested hostess (more interested in her text exchange than patrons) asked us to wait at the bar until our table was ready. The restaurant was half empty! They obviously wanted us to buy an (overpriced) drink at the bar before sitting down. The service was fine - nothing really horrible and nothing really special. The waiter did try and push the rather expensive dishes ('you need two crispy fishes'). The food you ask? Fine and expensive. No need to order anything on the far right side of the menu - it's over priced and not that good. Order only sushi and apps. Desserts are described better than they taste. Bottom Line: There are TONS better places to eat for the same (if not less) money in NYC. Next time I will have a drink at the bar and leave with enough time to make my reservation at Pastis (did i mention the only way to get in and out is via elevator?)

    Very impressed

i went to catch this past saturday night and i was so impressed i had to write my first review on menu pages. first off the vibe was amazing it was 1130 and the place was still packed but not long to sit just enough to enjoy a glass of rose at the good looking crowd filled bar. we sat and started with oysters which were very fresh. we had two rolls the mrg roll and the hellfire roll which were flavorable and again fresh. we ordered the tuna on crispy rice which was amazing such great flavors, the crispy shrimp which was a nice take on rock shrimp tempura with bigger shrimp and just the right amount of heat. my favorite thi g we had was the lobster and marscapone macaroni which was unbelievable. if you go to catch and do not try this you are missing out. it was a great restaurant with a great crowd and great food. A+++

    great

I went to Catch tonight and had to write a review. I went with my best friend and her husband and we had a great night. The restaurant has a great vibe and the food was terrific. Unlike some other reviews we had great service. We ordered so many dishes and everything was delicious. The tuna on crispy rice cakes were amazing! We ordered 4 of the special rolls and all were great. (MRC roll,Hellfire,Catch and Vegetable). Get the Cantonese Lobster. I am a top chef fan when I saw Hung Huynh I walked right up to him. He was so nice and I told him how fantastic everything was. He was so nice and appreciative. We sat upstairs where there is a huge open kitchen and after dinner we just hung out for a few minutes and watched all the chefs cook- very cool. I would definitely recommend this place and the space is huge so it is good for big groups. Make your reservation now.

    Pricey imperfection. (Just get appetizers!)

The GOOD: The Catch Roll (salmon & crab w/ honey miso glaze) was FANTASTIC! Should've just ordered 3 rolls of this for myself. The Crispy Shrimp was AWESOME! Spicy, tender, perfection. Could've eaten 3 orders of this also. Dungeness Crab Spaghetti -- Really good! Good hearty plate for sharing. Should've ended our meal after this. THE BAD: The waiter sold us on Chef Hung's Top-Chef winning entree of Scallops w/ Cauliflower puree. DO NOT GET THIS. It was $33 for the poorest plate of food I ever had. I couldn't finish this...and I have never not finished a plate of scallops. The scallops tasted barely cooked w/ zero caramelization, and the sauce on top tasted like diluted peanut butter. And the cauliflower puree was like baby food with a soapy plasticky taste. AVOID THIS DISH. I understand the restaurant is new & extremely busy, but we had to wait almost 15 mins before the waiter remembered to pour us our wine. And the wine pours are ridiculously little for the price. For $14/glass, I expect about twice what was poured. Our waiter was kinda an airhead and took too long to do everything. Our meal of 3 appetizers, half dozen oysters, scallops entree, and 4 glasses of wine came to $230 pre-gratuity.

    Glad I caught Catch

Just recently on the day after Thanksgiving our family went to CATCH for probably our 5th time. It was amazing as always, but the other night was ridiculous. In a very good way. The service was totally on top of it, we were greeted at the door, seated within minutes, we were greeted by our waiter, and our drink order was taken and delivered right away. The place is beautiful, a very cool scene indeed, and the entire place has a real nice vibe to it. The food was amazing, succulent, every dish, especially the do not miss Lobster Macaroni ( truly decadent ), the herb-roasted Branzino and crusted Snapper scrumptious, the sushi, oysters, and crab legs were perfect, fresh, and tasty, our waiter paired us with some great wines, and the bus staff was very attentive. The entire place had this nice downtown understated conversation going, it was packed with the hungry tragically hip scenesters, there was no rushing about by the staff, plenty to go around, and there was a nice "buzz about," underscored by a great music track that was just the right volume. There is no doubt you will love this new restaurant as much as our family does. Already looking forward to our Christmas visit.
