    What a surprise!

This place rocks! Last night at 11pm I thought I'd have to order from a mediocre place and get less than decent food, but I was wrong. Not only is it an incredible value, the food is just about sensational. It's so good that I'm ordering again tonight, and it's only 6pm. I ordered the 'Carnitas' which came with rice and black beans...it was so good! And pretty fast service too!!

Best Mex I've had in NYC...

I cannot tell you how much I love this restaurant. I lived around the corner from it for three years, then moved to Queens, and my boyfriend and I still head to Brooklyn to eat their food. The beef enchiladas with red sauce are superb, the guacamole is delicious- and they recently re-did the entire inside and backyard and it's beautiful. The burritos are the size of a football, I make two delicious meals out of them. Inside NYC, this is the best you'll ever taste.

    five years going strong

i love castros for their value and food. i eat home made mexican and cook it as well and we can't get enough when we need a quick meal.... i think their prices are on the low side, try their chile relleno, the ultimate taste test for a mexican restaurant, we love their sopes and burritos....

    AVERAGE

I ordered a chicken burrito, and it was very disappointing. It really lacked flavor and the lettuce was far from fresh. It was just so bland. Did not seem very fresh at all. Small sides of pico and guac too. The guac also appeared to be a little old as it had a very dull almost brownish tint to it. I doubt that I will order from here again.

    great food-backyard is nice too

I have tried it all tortas, breakfast, fajitas, burrito, enchiladas, fruit shakes, guac, everything has been fresh and delicious, and it tastes like it is cooked by people who care about food, not some hole-in-the-wall taco place, not white-washed either. If you go on the patio during a weeknight it is very intimate and calm. Only gripes, kinda pricey, some waitresses better than others.
