mediocre pasta
Four people: 3 pastas, 1 pork special. Pastas were all boring, tasted like dishes we could have made at home out of the boxed stuff. Grilled pork and the spinach and potato it was served with all tasted unpleasantly like smoke from the wood-grilled oven. Everyone raves about the pizza; maybe we should have had that. But I was underwhelmed.

Dear Pizza, I love you....
I wanted leave, puke in the street and come back for another meal.

Loved it!
We stumbled onto this gem on Valentine's Day. We had intended to go somewhere on Rivington Street in Manhattan, but everything was already booked. Caserta is wonderful. The host was amiable, greeting with a broad smile. Our waitress was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The environment is low key and casual. Expect some kids. We share the Arrabiata Pizza - which was made in a heart shape for us- and it was the perfect consistency. Crispy dark brown around the edges from the brick oven, chewy and thin elsewhere. Not a lot of *goo*, just a bit of fresh mozzarella, slightly tangy sauce, sausage and maybe some peppers, I think. My entree was the Rigatoni with sausage ragu. Nice ratio of noodles to meat. Not terribly oily or salty. Noodles were al dente. My husband had the Fettucine with Ricotta and Nutella special. If you are adventurous, you might like it. He did. I did not. Yes, it is exactly what you imagine it to be: noodles with liver colored sauce. Nutella, by the way, is also an ingredient on one of the pizzas. The hostess assured us that Nutella is such the rage in Italy, that they are experimenting with dishes along that vein too. Personally, I dont get it. I had wine: montepulciano. It was young, straightforward and very pleasant. My husband had the sangrai and it was surprisingly good. Overall, the bill came to maybe $50. I'd go back again in a heart beat.

Best Brick Oven Pizza of The Year
Had Quattro Fromaggi Pizza & Pizza w/ sausage & pepper. Both incredible. Parmegiano & Gorgonzola cheeses were perfect, just the right saltiness. For the sausage pizza, the tomato sauce was not too acidic nor was it too sweet or too much with dried herbs. Just Perfect. Unlike regular pizza places where you get too much toppings, this place gives you just the right amount of toppings so you can still enjoy the crunch of the crust. Portions are just right, one pizza for one person and it costs you about $12-14.

Good honest food
We eat here whenever we holiday in NYC. A good simple menu , genuine southern Italian fare, nice folk running the place, well worth a visit. The Gnocci and Linguini and clams are well worht it.

Best pizza this side of Naples
Consistent and excellent. Their pizzas are all incredible, with perfect crispy-chewy crusts and melting, flavorful fresh mozzarella. Best Caesar salad I've ever had, and their pasta dishes are also notable. Don't miss the spicy risotto with seafood or the lovely garden in the summer!
