I've been to Cascabel a couple of times since it opened, an I always love it. The food is fresh and delicio us, and everyone who works here is very friendly. While it is a little bit expensive, I would say that the ingredients and food quality warrant the prices. They have a lunch special that is 3 tacos and a salad for $15, which I shared with my boyfriend one day, and was a perfect, light lunch. Very tasty and just filling enough. The drinks here are strong, and very good. The big crowds here can be a detraction, as you need to fight to snag a table if you stay to eat, but otherwise, this place is fantastic and would recommend to anyone.

UES needs decent Mexican. Cascabel was almost the answer. The food is yummy, but portions very small. Delivery is a problem because there are no condiments on the tacos and they charge for the sauces that are free when you eat in.

Since I moved to NYC I have been complaining about the lack of good Mexican food. A few years ago a friend introduced me to Mercadito in the East Village and for a long time that we the only Mexican restaurant I found worth my time. Tonight we tried Cascabel for the first time and I couldn't believe how good their tacos were! The lengua is the best, although I really liked the carnitas and pollo chipotle tacos too. The elote asado (Mexican grilled corn) was also seriously delicious.

..amongst other things! The night we went, the hostess said 25 minutes. So we bought some drinks, patienly waited...45 minutes later were still waiting, and the hostess was DEFINITELY seating ing ablepeople ahead of us, Either in her haste, she forgot about us, or friends of the place came ahead, because we waited a while and saw newbies sitting down. The when we asked her 45 minutes in how long the wait she went "Er..there are still a few people ahead of you." Then when we asked her to check her list again she yelled NO! This is not the place of the neighborhood to have such attitude, the food isn't all that. *Also, more than a few people have complained about the fact that they do not allow orders of different taco types in an order. Really a turnoff!

The UES needed an authentic taco joint and this place is really good.

If you're looking for a cheap lunch, don't go here. First off, two tacos are now $8.50, when I was expecting them to be $7.50. And, they don't let you choose two different taco fillings. You have to get two of the same taco. For that price, it would be a sign of good customer service to at least let us choose. $3 for a coke it too steep. The carnitas I had were really delicious though.

After passing this place numerous times, we finally decided to give it a try. And it was absolutely fantastic! It's a great addition to the neighborhood as it's not really like any other place. Great little place to enjoy a nice cocktail and delicious tacos. Had the chicken, shrimp, and chorizo and all were superb. We had the nicest waitress who was really helpful on our first time there. So glad we finally went and can't wait to go back many times!
