    Disappointing service

I went to Casa with a friend on a Sunday night. It took almost 45 minutes for our food to be served, even though only half the restaurant was full and it seemed like a pretty slow night. They gave my friend the wrong dish, and the waiter was very rude about it -- she ended up eating it, or we would have had to wait another 45 minute. The food was plain and overpriced, nothing special and definitely not worth $20 a plate. I will never go here again.

    Coasting on indifference

Atypical, thoughtful interior space. The acoustics are impossibly loud and the a/c is cold near the entrance, yet nonexistent in the dining room along the banquet seating. The sizable portion of Cuscux Paulista, didn't compensate for it's indistinguishable seafood and too-salty flavor. The Xinxim De Galinha, also substantial in size, was dry. The sauce tasted tired and overreduced. The accompanied shrimp was flavorful and perfectly cooked -- it probably is the only ingredient in the restaurant cooked al a minute. The mound of white rice in the middle was nicely textured and flavored. Service requires a firm hand from the diner. The caipirinhas are mainly ice and indifferently mixed.

    Definitely A No Go

While the restaurant is very quaint and cute, the food is simply mediocre and the service is not attentive. Careful when you order wine because they keep it at the bar for you and you will only wind up getting half of the bottle. When asked for more wine, to the waitress' own suprise, the bottle was miraculously done. The place has potential but only if Gordon Ramsay whips it into shape.

    Charming but not Worth it

Casa is an adorable place, sweet atmosphere, but lousy rude service. We had a reservation, we were all there, and we waited over an hour for our table. The staff did give us 2 complimentary appetizers to compensate, but over an hour was harsh. When we sat down- we all ordered quickly as we were now approaching 10 pm and assumed the kitchen was getting tired- it was still slow getting the food. The dishs come with pieces that you sort of assemble- pots of stew that go over the plate of rice, that sort of thing. Well the plates of rice came, but the main stew dishes and bean dishes came out so randomly it was hard to tell what was what and what belonged to whom at the small quaint table. Overall the flavors were good but my beef was a lil too dry . I did love the saltyness and home cookedness, but it was flawed. The beans just felt reheated and average. Thank God for the excellent friends and the great company that saved our night.

    Just wonderful

It's been five years since I came back from Brasil, and I have been looking all over NY for the salty and dynamic food of Salvador and Rio. I have tried a handful of places, and have been disappointed repeatedly, until now. The food was fantastic. I definitely concede that the service left something to be desired, but not for lack of trying on the part of the wait staff. Once you go in knowing that, just enjoy it. The passion fruit cap's were authentic and delicious, and not so expensive at $8 a pop (plenty of good cachaca!). We shared the yucca fries, which were crisp and full of flavor, especially with the green sauce that they came with. Also, they bring freshly-baked, piping hot rolls once you sit down. For our entrees, we had the moqueca and the bobo. Both brought me back to Brasil, with the moqueca being slightly more flavorful. I was also loving the manioc paste that came with my dish, just like in Salvador. Yes, we were sat later than our reservation, and no, the things we ordered didn't come out super quickly, but I didn't mind sitting in a lovely cozy place, drinking and having a great time. I am definitely going back soon.

    Much potential, atrocious attitude

Used to really like this place. Service was always a let-down - sometimes reservations not honored. But yesterday was really the end of it for me: my girlfriend and I wanted to eat several appetizers, drink wine and have dessert. We sat down but when we ordered 3 appetizers, they said that wasn't enough given how busy they were and that they would force us to order more! It must be hard running a restaurant in New York and I'm sure the rent in the village is prohibitive. But, with all due respect, this kind of behavior is simply unacceptable. Had I been without girlfriend I would have thrown a complete fit, especially given how many times I have been there and how much money I have already spent there. The food is partly really good and authentic, the drinks are nice as well, so is the location. But the attitude unfortunately kills it all. I probably won't be back.

    Delicious!

I'm brazilian and whenever Im homesick, I go to Casa, which I think is the best, the only real brazilian in NY. Everything is excellent, especially the brigadeiro! Awesome!
