Walked by, looked interesting, but the experience was dismal. It was extremely noisy, food was bland and expensive. The sangria was like wine-flavored ice water. Besides the bus-boys, service was mediocre. As a resident of the neighborhood, was hoping for a good new place. This isn't it. Maybe this is just the trial period, but there's a lot of work to be done.

Against my will, I went to the public opening night of this restaurant. I hate trying new places in their baby steps, because they usually aren't ready yet and even though you think you'll try them again when they mature, you never really end up going back. However, whatever they were doing in the long build up to their opening, Casa Pomona did it well. You would never have guessed they just opened. I would recommend everything we had: pulpo, calamari, croquettes, jamon serano, manchego cheese. I didn't care for the pickled vegetables they give you to begin (too strong for my taste). The Spanish wine was very good. The decor is quite fun and the tables are spaced generously for NY. The service was knowledgeable, attentive and fun. I'll be back!
