Live in the neighborhood, this place is disappointing
Very rude, SLOW service, food way too expensive for what you get, NOT worth it, much better places to eat. Don't fall into the trap of it being a tourist hotspot, this place is NOT worth it at all. Do NOT waste your money.

Yum- Eat for days
Love the "Woody Allen" I literally buy it on Friday, and can eat until Sunday!! The meat is tasty and tender! I live in NYC and I must say its my fav "deli" sandwich! For $20 its a good deal for like 3 lbs of meat! Next time ill try the Rueben!! But all in all for take out I love it, I just wish they took CC's :-(

stick to pastrami and corned beef
This is a report of just one meal recently for two people, so I will be specific: pastrami sandwich: outrageously large and superb. fried onions: I make them better. sweet red peppers: inedible because pickled (not mentioned on menu). cheese blintzes: peculiar, tasting cheese in a very doughy outer, essentially inedible. cheese cake: too sweet, cheese tasted like plastic. The service was erratic, no knives provided, our server set a table holding the silverware by the ends that go into the food.

The decline of the deli
Stopped for a bowl of matzaball soup last night. It was better than most and fortunately I switched tables so I got a waiter who cared. The soup was just ok. I looked around at the huge sandwiches and decided not to have one and I love a great Ruben. Quality and size are great but outrageous size and pumped up prizes are for the tourists. And if a place isn't taking credit cards, then be fair, put a big sign at the entrance to tell people so the can decide it they want to pay big bucks for a sandwich and can see if they have enough cash. So many Deli reviews talk about rude service. Don't accept the: "it's the New York way because we're so busy." We're all busy all over the country and trained professionals know how to provide great service that makes a great dining experience and the cost worth it.

Harold's has nothing to wory about...
Food was great...extra charge for sharing of huge sandwhich but I guess you have to do that to scrape by on $15.00 sandwiches. Hard to enjoy this place with the rush but just ignore the pushy staff and chow down. Rummy, felt like a native of NYC!

Worth the price
First time here, I got a "Woody Allen" to go and I must say it took 2 days to finish the sandwich. It was yummy. My only complaint was the rude cashier. You work in a place where a lot of tourist go so the attitude towards foreigners who have a hard time with American money is ridiculous!! All in all it's a pretty decent sandwich for the price.

Worth the 'Experience'
3 of us went and shared a soup, coleslaw and fries with our 'Woody Allen' and a brisket sandwich... we could not even come close to finishing it... fries were the only thing that fell short (at $5 ) but everything else was fantastic... sharing charges apply if you don't all order a sandwich or 'main' and our bill for above with 3 soft drinks came to $70. This is a true NY experience you need to try at least once and you will return for the great food ... although pricey (unless you usually spend $19 for a sandwich) There is more than a pound of meat on the sandwich so it's not like you are not getting value
