Harold's has nothing to wory about...
Food was great...extra charge for sharing of huge sandwhich but I guess you have to do that to scrape by on $15.00 sandwiches. Hard to enjoy this place with the rush but just ignore the pushy staff and chow down. Rummy, felt like a native of NYC!

Worth the price
First time here, I got a "Woody Allen" to go and I must say it took 2 days to finish the sandwich. It was yummy. My only complaint was the rude cashier. You work in a place where a lot of tourist go so the attitude towards foreigners who have a hard time with American money is ridiculous!! All in all it's a pretty decent sandwich for the price.

Worth the 'Experience'
3 of us went and shared a soup, coleslaw and fries with our 'Woody Allen' and a brisket sandwich... we could not even come close to finishing it... fries were the only thing that fell short (at $5 ) but everything else was fantastic... sharing charges apply if you don't all order a sandwich or 'main' and our bill for above with 3 soft drinks came to $70. This is a true NY experience you need to try at least once and you will return for the great food ... although pricey (unless you usually spend $19 for a sandwich) There is more than a pound of meat on the sandwich so it's not like you are not getting value

Listen up...
I'm a NY'er...born and bred...and I grew up on this food. This place is an institution. Whenever I feel nostalgic for my Brooklyn days with my grandparents...this is one of my go-to places...you can't beat the matzoh balls...gefilte fish and chopped liver. It's homemade and authentic and is just everything that good and right about NY Deli food. The atmosphere is quintessential NY deli too...shared tables...waiters rushing around (they're not rude...they're busy...deal with it). For my $ I'll always take Katz's for corned beef and pastrami but Carnegie is still top-notch. Soups are not as good as 2nd Ave Deli but still worth the visit. Don't listen to the haters...go and see for yourself...experience a tatse of the true NY Deli life and walk out stuffed and satisfied.

Not recommended
The service is subpar, the food is way down and extremely pricey. I live no more than 200 feet away I ordered a sandwich and half of the sides were missing. the bill was over charged and the delivery man was not happy with the $2 tip.

Unpleasant experience
We visited the place because my husband really wanted NY pastrami. After we were seated we found the portions were GIGANTIC and there is a $12.50 minimum purchase per person required. Therefore, you can’t share a meal ($17 for 1 sandwich) without being charged extra so that you get to the minimum purchase. Then, there is a small note on the menu: “We do not accept credit cards, only cash or traveler’s checks”. But they conveniently had one of those private ATMs that charge large fees inside the restaurant. To make it worse, when we found this out and politely told the waiter that it felt like it was a rip-off, he answered in a very rude way that we didn’t have to eat there and we could leave if we wanted to. Additionally, he was very upset that we had some questions about some of the food items and one person was taking an extra minute trying to make a decision. I would have left if we had not had our 5 yr old daughter with us who was tired and hungry. But I will NEVER go back.
