Great Food & Plenty Of It!!

This was our first taste of Carmine's. It did not disappoint! The Lasagna and Penne Ala Vodka were terrific. You must try the stuffed mushroom appetizers and the garlic bread. We had Take Out back in our hotel since we could not get a timely reservation. At first we thought it was a bit pricey being take out, but when we opened our meals, we were shocked at the huge portions. One meal could feed four…Yes (4). Thank goodness we’re from New Jersey as we’ll be bringing home a great big doggy bag!! We’ll definitely be back for more!!

    Good Food

Make sure that you get to Carmine's early if you want to eat there ... the line gets pretty long during peak hours ... but i think it's worth it. Their Carmine's Salad and Seafood Pasta is great! Such huge servings that can feed a whole family ... well, it is a family style restaurant anyways. Try their Strawberry Shortcake for dessert ... it's really good!

    Favorite slightly kitchy italian place

I am in love with carmines. It may be loud and crowded like some other reviewers have mentioned, but it is because it is so full and popular at all times of day because it is something to brag about. Plus, it is a real homey-feeling italian restaurant and if anyone knows italian culture, lots of people, lots of food, and lots of noise is what its all about. the food is family size portions, emphazing this atmosphere even more and is extremely authentic and delicious, being from an italian family myself. The atmosphere is adorable and classy without being over the top. Just watch out for wait times or busy hours and youll be fine. Very highly recommmended!! :-)

    Some Good Italian

My boyfriend and I wanted to try something new and decided on Carmine's. We went this past Saturday about noon and there was about a 15 minute wait. Our waiter was nice and very helpful. The bread was fantastic! We ordered the chicken parm over spaghetti (lunch portion and it was still huge!). The chicken parm was excellent! The only problem with our meal was the spaghetti - it was a bit under cooked for my taste (but still good). This place is definitely worth it - you leave stuffed and with a doggy bag!

    Favorite Manhattan Restaurant

We have eat at Carmines in the theatre district so many times and have loved it eat time. The atmosphere feels like old Italian and is on the loud side. However, that adds to the character of the place. The food is amazing! We have loved everything we'd had. The calamari is the best I've ever had, along with their chicken marsala and any pasta with vodka sauce. You must try this restaurant!

    Disappointed

Upon entering the restaurant we were shuffled to the bar where we had to wait even though we had reservations. The noise level was a bit much and when we were finally seated our waiter seemed to disappear. I had the veal with lemon and butter sauce. It really was lemon with veal because one taste and the amount of lemon overpowered the veal to the point you could not eat it. The only saving grace was my husband's meal of spaghetti and meatballs. The portion was large enough to share and the meatballs were good. Will not return to this restaurant.

    An outing with my in-laws

My husband and I visit Carmine's as often as we can because we love the atmoshere and the family style fare. When my in-laws came into town for their first visit to NYC yesterday we decided to bring them out to our favorite place. I called the day before our visit to see if we could get a reservation but they only take reservations for 6 people or more after 6pm but will take a reservation for less people before 6pm so I asked for any reservation before 6pm and they said they were booked. We opted to to just go in at 5pm and see what happened. We were seated immediately and there were many tables available. My mother-in-law ordered a kahlua sombraro and the waitress never heard of it, which was odd,so we explained what it was and she brought it over and it tasted horrible, after a couple more tries she finally brought over a better tasting drink. We ordered the mixed green salad which was good but less than usual. We also got the rigatoni with broccoli and sausage in white sauce which was delicious. We decided to split 2 dishes so we also ordered the chicken marsala which was just as expensive but a lot less food because it didn't come with pasta. Overall the food was good but our waitress seemed new or confused which made the visit less satisfying. Our total bill which included 4 beers, a glass of wine and my mother-in-laws drink, came to $120 before tip. We were full and left without a doggy bag. No room for dessert or coffee which we had planned on having. I recommend trying this restaurant at least once-you won't be disappointed.
