Just Like Momma Used to Make!

DINNER - What can I say, this is my all-time favorite, must-do restaurant in NYC. Every visit I have to dine here! OK, so our most recent visit (3/26/08), a Wednesday, we called early in the day but the only reservations were after 8pm, so we went to a show in the afternoon then walked over to Carmine's, the wait was 1 1/2 hours. We put our names on the list (Party of 4) and used the time to check into our hotel and freshen up. We returned about 1-hour later, check that we were not called early, and waited about 20 minutes more. We were seated in the back, on a raised area which gave us a great view of the entire dining area. We could see the food being delivered at the other tables. We started with a salad, then a Stuffed Artichoke (YUM!). The artichoke is great. We ordered Lasagna and the night's special a stuffed pork chop. The server steered us away from a full order of the pork chop and thank goodness, because even with the half order we could not finish it all. The lasagna was plenty to split 4 ways, the pork chop was delicious and was served with mashed potatoes and spinach. Sadly, in all the times I have dined here, I have never had room for dessert, on one visit I will have to go late one night just for dessert. Well worth the cost, I cannot rave enough about this place.

    Delicioso!

Our family celebrated our son-in-law's birthday at Carmines. It was the weekend before New Years. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and very busy. We had a reservation and were seated within five minutes. We ordered the calamari which was cooked to perfection and not rubbery. We also had a mixed greens salad, the special Sunday multi-pasta dish (to die for!!!) and chicken marsala. Everything was so delicious that there are not enough words to express the wonderful culinary experience. We topped off the meal with the tiramisu and the strawberry shortcake. Very attentive service was excellent in spite of how busy they were. We will definitely be back again and will hopefully make it a tradition to do our birthday celebrations at Carmines!

    Great Family Style Dinner

My family and I have eaten here a few times and absolutely love it! The portions are HUGE and delicious and there is always some left over to take home. The service is very friendly and attentive unless you are there during their busiest time - then they can be a little slow to get the small things. We have learned how to time our walk in for seating and have gotten seated every time even though our party is always over 6. Avoid going immediately before or after show times and you will always get a seat!

    Worth it

I have never had bad food from here. Yes, it costs a fortune but you get H-U-G-E family-style portions. I had a small celebration with some food that was delivered from here. The tray of calimari was snackalicious, the veal was tender and tasty, and the pasta ragu had delectable meatballs and sausages. Folks, the portions were large enough for four days worth of dinner. If you don't want the ruckus of being there, or can't get a reservation, just get it delivered!

    Good food--worth the wait

I have been to this Carmines twice and the one in Atlantic City several times. I brought my 3 sons here last week, and everyone raved about the chicken marsala, chicken parmesan, lasagna, and Carmine's Salad. We had plenty to eat, and everything was delish! My only complaint is that when we arrived at 11:30 a.m., most of the tables were empty, and we were told to come back at 12:15. When we returned at 12:15, the place was full and we were told it would be another half-hour. Since they do not take reservations for groups less than 6, this hanging around cuts into your time in the city and is quite annoying.

    Okay

I recently went to Carmines for dinner. Wife, 2 kids 9 and 11 and my self. I have heard many great reviews and i must say it was only ok. I had the Rigotini country style and chicken with lemon. The pasta dish was not bad but the chicken was a waste of money. we got 5 paper thin pieces on a huge dish, every thing looked lost. We had meatballs to start off with and they didn't even bring us bread until we asked for it and then it took about a half hour. We went to this place around the corner a few weeks ago Bella Vita, and must say that is the place. Food was outstanding in comparrison, Hope this helps.
