    Good Food

I have been to Carmine's both in New York and AC often, most recently in NYC last Saturday. It's annoying that you can never get a reservation, but our party of 5 arrived at 11:30 and were seated within 15 minutes. We ordered the Carmine's Salad, Chicken Marsala, and Rigatoni with Bolognese Sauce. Some of us had drinks and/or coffee. A neighboring table shared their dessert, so we didn't have it on our tab. The bill for the 5 of us with generous tip was $30 each--moderate for that kind of meal in a good restaurant in the theater disstrict. The food is consistently good, and the waiters are efficient to accommodate all the people who want to come here and leave satiated. My advice is to print out the menu on menupages.com before you come and decide what your group wants to order. It also helps to come with a compatible group. Then you won't waste anybody's time and you won't complain about the prices. I love to come to this place with a large group of big eaters, and I plan to return in December. P.S. The AC location is much less harried, so if it's an issue for you and you love Carmine's, go there.

    The Italian Zoo!

I recently met a large group of former collegues for dinner at the Carmine's ZOO. I had been to Carmine's many times and the food in my past experiecnces was very good. Maybe we just picked a bad night because the place was mobbed and our short on patience wait staff was less then enthused when we were not sitting right down for dinner. I understand needing to turn the tables quickly in a busy place but this was insane. I took 2 bites of the hot antipasto and the waiter asked if i was done cause they were bringing out dinner. I can eat fast with the best of them, but this was a little too fast. As the gigantic meatballs bounced on the table and i tried to grab a piece of bread i think my hand was crushed when the waiter put down a huge tray of rubber shrimp and something that appeared to be vegatables. As for the something parm we were presented with, I still don't know if it was chicken, veal or who knows what. As the rest of dinner was brought out the kaos continued when i asked for some butter for my bread that never appeared. Desert was a highlight of this zoo grazing. Outstanding Canolis as always at Carmine's. Overall disappointing for a place that caters to large groups.

    Great Group Experience!

We had a great experience at Carmines. We called a made reservations a week ago. With 12 women, we were seated immediately, even though a few were late. We had our own area with a long table. Service was great! and FAST! The waiter was friendly and helpful. We were all pleased with the food quality. Our order for 12 included: 2 portobello appetizers (loved the cheese one), 2 salads (the spring salad on Wed. ngts. is delicious - with fruit and nuts, etc.), 3 pastas: Penne ala Vodka, Manicotti (YUMMY!), Eggplant Parmesan (which we couldn't even finish!), and finally, 2 desserts - both really Delicious! (Tiramisu and the Tugboat - small version of the Titanic - check it out!). We all had water except for 2 coffees and one glass of wine. With tax, it came to $223.80. So $18.65 + 20% tip. A GREAT DINNER and VALUE!

    xmas day

i brought my family of 6 total to carmines for a dinner on xmas day. i didnt make any resrvations and i was dumb not to. we ended up waiting 1.5 hrs for a table, luckily we got there a bit early. we were seated upstairs and nobody attended to us until i had to ASK for ice water. the person i asked was not responsible for my table so he got my server who finally came with a pitcher of water. the tables around my table were all empty as well so i don't know what he was so busy doing. he was really bad with explaining the specials of the day because i couldnt hear him clearly. he never mentioned anything about prices either so when i got the bill i was charged $76 for a tbone steak contadina DEF NOT WORTH IT. and approx $50 for salmon(fish of the day), which was not worth it but it was REALLY delicious. REALLY good. the mussels on the appetizer list is a must eat, and the calamari as well. it was perfectly fried. we also had chicken contadina which was not good and over dried. my bill for 6 people came out to $300 with tips. not bad but i would have expected better servicing especially at such a place. its family oriented so the portions are all made to be shared. before u order you should def clarify the prices first because i was not expecting to pay $76 for a piece of burned TBONE steak!....the takeout menu they had downstairs (i took a copy) was all priced at a few bucks LOWER than what i was charged so im not sure whether they are aware of that but i wasnt until i got home and looked at the prices of calamari, mussels, chicken contadina and saw that i was overcharged. odd. the menus are all on the wall so its awkward if youve never been here before bc you have to basically read over someone's table to see the menu or you can follow the take out one. the canned sodas are $3 a piece which is overpriced obviously so ice water was what i drank all night. the sausage, mussels, calamari, salmon, was all i raved about all night long. nothing else was really that great. its a decent place to take your family but make sure u have a reservation. its usually noisy in there as well. very casual family dining. no need to dress up.

    Wonderful experience

I just returned from a bus trip to NYC and dinner at Carmines was a definite highlight! Yes, we arrived with 2 bus loads of people and the seating was tight...but efficient. Antipasta salad and breads were waiting on the tables for us....and we began eating immediately. I loved all the items presented....even managed to sample several desserts. Their cheese cake was outstanding. The servers worked very hard and made us feel special.

    Good food but...

We went to Carmine's before going to the Theater. We made reservations well over a month ahead. We got there a little early. They took our name, crossed us off the list and told us where to wait. We were the only ones waiting. We waited and waited all the while watching an empty table 20 feet away. They started seating people that just walked in with no reservation and we were still waiting. Finally after waiting way to long we ask when we would be seated. They said our name was crossed off. We said yes you just crossed it off and told us to wait. Luckily the manager just walked up. We were seated instanly at the table we had been watching. We were told when we had to give up the table! Incredible after waiting for so long. We would have just about finished our meal if they would have seated us when we first showed up. The people especially the male at the area where they seat you was arrogant to the max. He was one of the very few rude people we came across while in NYC. The waiter was very good and the food was excellent. They do serve family style and the portions are large. I would have liked to have had smaller portions and been able to have a couple different things to try. It wasn't our best experience while in NYC and I'll probably skip this place when I go back.
