    Are they kidding?

Twice I have walked out while the staff chatted amongst themselves. A stifling hot space I choose not to wait in for a medicre cheesesteak. No wonder the downtown location closed! 34th st will be next.

    Slowest delivery in NYC

We liked the cheesesteaks but they can take two hours to deliver. It's fast food. Don't bother unless you like cold food and a growling stomach.

    amateur hour

The cheesesteak was so salty it was almost inedible. Ingredients seemed good and if only it wasn't so salty then maybe it would be pretty good. I had to take a drink after every bite. Luckily I ordered Hawaiin Punch because it's delicious. I also got the onion rings. They were fried too long and almost burnt. I ate them anyway because I was hungry. But if I wasn't hungry, I'd probably throw them angrily at small children.

    Great food by local owner!

A small local business, Carl's steaks has that feel. Reviews on the wall, Yankees baseball things all over, small, quaint pace. Food is far too pricey in general...you pay over $6 to get a nasty meal at McDonald's. Their cheese steaks are very reasonable considering the amount of meat on the sandwich, the options, and the amazing flavor. The bread is AMAZING. Moreover, the steak is juicy and everything tastes fresh. My FAVORITE cheese steak in NYC and I've eaten many from many places. Carl's takes the cake.

    not worth the price

I visited this place several years ago when the sandwich was $7.50 and they've gone up over the years I ordered a chicken sub of their and it was awful, the meat was dry barely had any seasoning and the chicken was chopped up into so many smalls pieces the only thing you can really taste and bit into was the bread. I see their up to $13 and it's highway robbery for a sandwich soda and fries.

steak sandwiches don't taste that good

Forget the service and decor. At least their steak sandwiches should taste good, but they don't.

    Almost Phily

I'm not from Philadelphia, but I have been through many times and had many cheesesteaks there. Carl's is about the best I've had outside of Phily. Pro's: great rolls (very authentic), great toppings (I got the works; onions, mushrooms, peppers and whiz). Meat is very tender and juicy. They make enough sandwiches there that the meat is always cooking - personally I think that is one of the secrets to great cheesesteaks. I.e. the meat "stews" in their own juices for a while. Meat is chopped, some people like it more sliced, like Geno's or Pat's. I like it both ways :-). Con's: The only complaint I have is the hot sauce. It is pretty much just tabasco. Geno's and Pat's have a great hot sauce; not sure if they make it themselves or buy it, but it is much better.
