Great restaurant
The food was very good and the service was the best you will find on the UES. Very friendly and accommodating. Not sure why more people don't come here, but you should. My only issue is I think they should make it a bit darker in there, but it's well worth a try.

Great Neighborhood Find
Didnt know what to expect because the restaurant always seemed empty when I walked by. The food was traditional Sicilian Italian and was extremely flavorful and abundant. The service was amazing--the waiter gave us free wine and vegetables because it was our first time there. I am a supporter and will be returning!

Great food
Been going here for many, many years. Thoroughly enjoy the food (the fresh moz with peppers ap is the best anywhere!). The service is top notch and it is a great value. The only drawback is the recent renovation. The lights couldn't be brighter - please turn them down. Lights have turned a quaint intimate Italian into a high school cafeteria. Other than that it is one of our favorites.

So So Experience
The wait staff was courteous and attentive but the atmosphere was not up to par. It was a small restaurant with no music playing and lights that were a bit too bright for a dining experience. It was awkwardly quiet to the point of being able to hear the clink of utensils and the content of others' conversations. The food was decent but nothing special. I have had much better chicken valdostana and the bread was a bit stale. It was a great value for the price and I would still consider trying something different, but I will not be going back until I have explored many other places.

Best Italian on the UES!
I went to Carino last night after a long hiatus. The food there is just out of this world - the same taste I remember from over a year ago. The prices are fair. The portions are plentiful. The staff is friendly. This is probably the most inviting Italian restaurant in the neighborhood.

poor italian on UES
Not sure if we caught this place on a bad night: I have not written a review on menupages before but use the site consistently and feel compelled to warn others about this place. We dined early on a Saturday evening and found the bread was stale to the point of being inedible, the baked clams were doused in oil and thoroughly unpleasant. The cream sauce for the fettucini was primarily made from butter and barely tasted of anything at all and the "special" shrimp and pesto linguini was also swimming in oil and tasted as if they used frozen shrimp and pesto from a jar. On top of that it was extremely expensive compared to other italians in the area, and they overcharged us. All in all a very unpleasant dining experience.
