Feeling Ripped Off
We stumbled across this place in an area that is pretty desolate of restaurants at night. It is very charming and inviting, and the staff were very nice. We had high hopes that were crushed by the mediocre food and high prices. It was empty and it took a while to get our food, as the staff spent a lot of time at the bar, and it was hard to get their attention (we were the only customers eating). We thought we had plenty of time, but wound up being in a rush because we had tickets to a show. Under normal circumstances this wouldn't have been a problem, but start to finish, if we hadn't rushed, it would have taken over an hour. We had just come from a cocktail party and weren't starving, so ordered 2 soups, 1 appetizer, 1 ravioli, 1 glass of wine and it came to $78. A rip off for this type of restaurant. The food was over salted and not delicious, though it sounded so good when they described it. The soup was plain but hearty. I couldn't eat the stuffed calamari at all because it wasnt fresh. We had to take the ravioli to go because it took so long to come out. The bite I had was almost inedible.

What a find!
I thought this place was very special. Very European, charming and a great value. The homemade pasta is just wonderful, the inexpensive chianti delicious. I don't know what the complainers' problems were, but I am sending everyone I know to this little jewel in the garment district.

Wonderful food and place
when my friends and i entered there was a small bar where i had an apple martini wich was prepared from a very nice bartender after we sat in a table wich was served tipical italiaan brosqueta and a tasty glass of wine... we then ordered rigatoni pasta and scaloppine di vitello... it was a wonderful meal and a very good service!

i'll give it one more try but
I was so looking forward to trying Carbone...i work one block away and it looks so inviting. The back garden was delightful, the people very warm. My food was unappetizing. I ate two bites and that was it. The waitress never asked why I didn't eat any of my dinner, and I was not in the mood to offer. But I never should have been charged for the food. It was completely subpar, even burned. My companion told me that her meal was excellent and it looked it - as did all the dishes served around us. So I'll give it a try again. My mistake was not asking more about the dish and then not asking for it to be replaced, which I have a feeling the restaurant would have been happy to do. They deserve another try, but i'll be wary of what I order, for sure.

Never go there
I read the reviews and saw the great ratings, but there must have been a dramatic change in ownership and employees. Even with the place empty the service was non existent, the food was overpriced for what it was.

An overall EXCELLENT experience!!!
Having been to Italy several times, this is the closest I've come when comparing the food and overall atmosphere. Trying to find someplace great to eat near MSG isn't the easiest and this place excellent. The pizza was just as it would be in Rome and the staff was extremely attentive. We had so much fun we almost forgot about the concert!

Great Experience
I never write reviews but I had to add one because we had such a fun meal here. We were a party of 8 with tickets to a show at Madison Square Garden and wanted somewhere casual nearby. The outdoor patio was charming and the food was really tasty and reasonable. The owner is eager to please and did a great job of recommending wine and dishes. The service was poor so if you go, keep in mind that it is slow and not entirely competent. However, if you're not in a rush and aren't uptight about needing to remind the waiter a few times, you'll love it. Pizza was awesome, pastas, chicken, steak and salad were very good too. It looks like a slightly upscale pizza place inside so the backyard is the way to go.
