Caravan of Dreams
Posted by Burnsey on 03/29/2006
A recent visit to Manhattan found me staying near Caravan of Dreams. After my first meal, I returned two more times, and must say, I was thrilled to be able to eat as well as I did, be treated like family, and not totally bust my wallet open each time I walked in to eat. A great experience, especially for those who care about the food they consume. i recommend it highly, and i have been in the food business a long time to know what a well run restaurant looks like.

I'd lived around the corner for about a year. A vegetarian friend was over (i've been a vegetarian since '88) so we went with two other people. Nobody liked their food BUT everybody liked what I ordered, from a shake to a salad appetizer to my main course (and sorry, i forget what i ordered!) This was the most delicious food I've ever had in any restaurant even when I wasn't a vegetarian. My God. I think about the meal constantly. I haven't gone back because it wound up being expensive and I just can't afford it. Some of the other people had dishes with seaweed (which really is an aquired taste - not mine) so maybe that's why they weren't as thrilled with their meals. Atmosphere was nice but sit in the front, not the rear of the joint where they put 'us' - the lound ones. You'll feel like you're at the kid's table at Thanksgiving dinner. I wish I could remember what I ordered.

This was the best veggie food I've had in a long time. The servers were so nice and accomodating and the food was beyond my expectations - creative and beautiful - as well as delicious. The portions were just right in size. I recommend the carrot cream soup. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. Don't forget to tip the musicians!

Caravan prepares salads that are both esthetically pleasing and tremendously delicious. Their dressings are the best I've ever tasted, and I've been vegan for more than a decade. I don't often eat cooked food but the "Shitake stir fry" is absolutely amazing. To say this is simply good vegan fair does a disservice to the highly gifted chefs and cooks at Caravan. This is creative and tasty food for everyone. The wait staff is extremely down to earth and very warm and friendly and always happy to accomodate requests, no matter how nudgy. No other place compares.

I just ate there today - never had really good vegan food like that plus it's kosher try the coconut creme pie ... or just try everything.

The lunch special here is great, you can get 2 dishes for 10 bucks...and there is always great live food to choose from. I have tried a lot of things on the menu and nothing disappoints!

I have been to CoD at least ten times. It is consistently great. Fresh, delicious, creative food, expansive menu, nice atmosphere, good service. A wonderful place.
