My wife and I read all these amazing reviews about Caravaggio so we had pretty high expectations. First, I'll say the room/atmosphere is great and the service was top notch as well. Having said that, the food was honestly average, at best. My wife got the beef carpaccio appetizer which was solid, but it's kinda tough to mess up carpaccio. I had the grilled octopus salad and some of the octopus was undercooked and had too much of that funky, slimy octopus skin on it...I honestly had to muscle it down which I don't particularly enjoy. Then my wife got one of their pasta specials, which was solid, but certainly nothing to write home about. And I got a veal tasting special (loin, sweetbreads, kidney) which was very disappointing. The loin looked a whole lot better than it tasted and the kidney was under-cooked (not a good thing, trust me). The sweetbreads were very good, so I'll give them that. Because neither of us finished our main courses were were still a bit hungry and then had what was definitely the best 2-courses...a small cheese plate and their special doughnut desert (both excellent). So if you're looking for carpaccio and doughnuts, then I'd highly recommend Caravaggio...otherwise do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere.

Caravaggio without a shadow of a doubt is one of the best Italian restaurants in Manhattan. I had the Spinach Cannelloni for an appetizer which simply melted in my mouth followed by the Branzino that was cooked to perfection. The Island dessert was also out of this world. The service was impeccable. The menu is great but the specials are even better. The cost was reasonable for the wonderful experience. I would without a doubt go back to Caravaggio again!

Decent but not extraordinary food, so-so service, huge tabs. As the title of this review suggests, you do the math. I won't be a repeat patron.

I don't know if we ever paid that much for dinner, but it was quite tasty. I had a beet and burrata appetizer that was out of this world and a pasta dish with fresh truffle, which was also good. Delicious bread and wine, too. We were a group of 4 in our twenties who felt a little out of place with the middle-age to octaganerian blue blood crowd, but the servers didn't treat us differently and were friendly and attentive. 30-somethings showed up a little later in the night. Beautiful restaurant, but the back wall of crayon faces screaming is a little creepy, but it made for a conversation starter. I'd only go back if someone else were paying, but it's worth trying.

Wonderfully good food in one of the most comfortable dining rooms around and fine service by real pros. You will not find many restaurants in NYC as good as this but you also can't find many this pricey. But for the right occasion is is well worth it.

My husband and I just walked into this establishment blind. We were ecstatic about the food. I had the Branzino, a fish I had never experienced prior and it was fabulous. How they cooked it really hot without overcooking it? It is pricey, but definitely worth it!
