Forget about it
If you try the real arepas you will never eat at this place this is the poorest venezuelan restaurant I ever been...the pernil arepa with mango sauce? unappetizing. and Reina pepiada is a Chicken guacamole arepa!! and the Pelua with sweet beef? the real one is salty...... beside very poor service!!

Long Wait for Wrong Order
As I arrived for Lunch, I ordered 3 arepas and a drink after waiting 35 minutes I received the wrong order completely and since it cost about $30.00 they should be precise on the order details. They seemed to not care as they were giving take out orders...

Disappointed
I'm an EastVillage resident who loves simple good food w/o the foofoo. Caracas always have pple waiting in line, thus I was excited to try. WTF? I don't get the hype? The arepas were overcooked, oily and had a plastic texture, sat like bricks in my stomach. Fillings tasteless, chicken dry and hard. Beef was ok (not worth $7 thou). Should've known better; you would never eat sushi from a place called "Tokyo."

overpriced
no arepa should be more than $2.50. i'm from caracas. i grew up there, and go back often. i have gone to caracas arepa bar a couple of times, to take friends. the service is ok. and the food is quite decent. decent enough that i can take friends willing to taste something like the original stuff. but no self-respecting venezuelan (or anyone, for that matter) should pay more than $2 or $2.50 for an arepa. no way. it's simply too much. i guess their rent is high. and most of their clients seem to be post-2000 east village types that have no clue about authenticity anyway. so go, but only if you won the lottery that week. (to illustrate: would you pay $7 for a hot-dog or a falafel sandwich? no, you wouldn't. so don't pay $7 for an arepa.)

Good food in a typically Manhattan space
Caracas has a unique menu filled with authentic flavors. The food is always fresh and well prepared. On my last trip I had papelón con limón, a very refreshing drink. Think extra sweet tea. My favorite arepa is the Reina Pepiada, which is a delicious chicken and avocado salad. The yoyos - plantains with a tasteless cheese are good, but for the price you should skip what is essentially a few pieces of fried plantain with maple syrup. The arepas are a great deal at under $7.50. You won't get too many unique sandwich sized treats for that price in NYC. The space is a cramped hole in the wall where in typical Manhattan fashion they try and stuff as many people in the room as possible. It has "Manhattan" seating where your table is less than one inch from the next. Also, in typically hip fashion, on this hot and humid day, they chose not to run the air conditioning - you know, because that is so cool to be off-temperature. Honestly, that is one little trend I'm really sick of. The service is fine, very fast and polite.

Good & pricey
Best Venefood but for ingredients that are readilly available and recipes easy to find, this is too expensive. Rent must be high... But i'll pay it for the ambiance & the great service.

Got me fantasizin
Caracas is so good. It is cheap. It is not overfilling. I can get one and be happy and full and still have enough room in my tum to go out for some drinking. It is cozy inside, and the staff is always really nice. The food takes a bit of time because they actually make it when you order it! I think it's a great spot, and it's unique and delicious in a city where the constant food trending can make meals a bit repetitive. I recommend Caracas to everyone and sometimes I dream about rolling around in that SAUCE.
