    REALLY GOOD STUFF

I work in the area and I use to get lunch at these “fancy places " around here, and the food ehh and to much $$ but Captains Cafe! Hmmmmmm Yummy! Very good food, very clean place, and Amazring prices.. Very affordable. I esp. love their Gyro platter and burgers.. Oh and GREAT staff!

    Brilliant

After a college trip from the UK to NY, we stayed at the Hotel Grand Union. The Cafe being at the hotel naturally became our source of breakfast. The staff were extremely friendly, polite and went out of there way to make sure the service was spot on. If i were a new york resident, i could easily see myself as a regular.

    Breakfast only!

My friend and I went there for breakfast 2 mornings, after eating at the Brooklyn Diner we loved this place and hated the other. I had the bagel and the potatoes, they were so delicious! We didn't have great service, we had to ask them for more coke, but it was right by our hotel, Hotel Grand Union, which we liked and it was close to everything!

I became a regular customer after 1 trip

Honest people with great character. Great diner food just like you grew up with. I found myself at home instantly when I walked into this place and have been a regular ever since. I usually go with the Gyro but it doesn't matter. If you work in the neighborhood, you need to add this place to your list. If you're visiting, go to have some great conversation with the staff and enjoy a homestyle meal.

    Burger not as expected

I was excited to try this place because of the postive reviews of the char-broiled burger - a temptation on this very cold day. I liked the ambiance and service, but the burger was a disappointment (greasy, thin, maybe made from a commerical patty, but the large toasted bun was a plus), the standard frozen fries weren't crisp, and the cole slaw had the tang of the commercially prepared. I went at lunch time peak figuring that things would be at their best.

    A Wonderful, Cozy Spot!!

So I decided to try this place cuz I was really in the mood for a good burger. The place is a little small, but this adds to its charm. The service was quick and efficient, and the burger (I ordered the cheeseburger deluxe) was well made and yummy. The fries were hot and crisp also. What sold me on this place, though, apart from the great burger was that I ordered a can of diet pepsi and the cashier rinsed the top off in the sink before handing it to me (this may sound insignificant, but for those of you who know how thick with grime the tops of soda cans tend to be, it was an awesome courtesy). I'll definitely be going back soon.

Solid place for a quick lunch

The burgers are solid. A coworker had a gyro and loved it. The place is small (about 10 counter seats and 20 table seats) so be careful. We were there at 12pm and it was crowded but not packed (maybe the bad weather helped). The place is small, but definitely worth the trip.
