    Shocked By Poor Service

After reading the sterling reviews, I especially looked forward to a Valentine's Day dinner with my wife at Capsouto Freres last evening. Let me preface my remarks by saying that I can easily overlook 2 or 3 flaws in service and not let it affect my mood or meal. I am also polite and respectful of any wait staff, regardless of setting. In this case, and having read positive reviews of service on site, I will allow for the possibility that the staff was having a bad night. However, by meal's end, the inattentive and inefficient service from soup to nuts was so noticeable, that I left the restaurant vowing never to return. I did speak to one of the owners who was very gracious to apologize and ask what he could do. However, I'm not a schnorrer...I did not want anything but an enjoyable meal with my wife and that was not recoverable. What was so wrong? This is an upscale restaurant, one where one would expect the wait staff not leave long lapses between appearances at the table. However, after being seated, I had to call over a waiter after ten minutes for a drink order. OK. Not a tragedy, but that turned out to set the tone for the evening. No one came to fill our water glasses throughout the meal, to remove our plates when our entrees were done, to scrape the tablecloth (which still had a bit of lettuce from the salad course) before dessert or to ask whether we wanted coffee before or while dessert was being served, unless I flagged a waiter. Heck, I had to put practically put up a flare to get a second roll. The cumulative effect was disbelief and distress. I hope the reader's experience will be better.

    Flawless!

There's everything right and nothing wrong with Capsouto Freres. Since 1980, this has been a beautiful, perfect place for a delicious, perfect meal and the staff is as delightful as can be. I cannot recommend it too highly.

    Very Good for the Value

The dining experience at this restaurant is very good. Has a very warm and friendly atmosphere a great place to get together with friends and family for a good meal. The service is very good, very nice wine list and they know their wine and make good recommendations. The food is good but the best part of the meal is the dessert. The souffl? is amazing no matter what flavor it is, but I like the chocolate one best. I have been there three times and will go back for sure very soon.

    Wow

This is a great place for families to gather, or an intimate dinner for lovers of all ages - no kidding. The food is exceptional and the dessert souffles are sure to delight everyone. Not to mention this restaurant is one of the best values in NY. It is not your typical NY restaurant - it is spacious and the afternoon light is not to be believed. One of the "freres" is always there - so it feels like home. After 25 years of service, it is one of NY's restaurant jewels - My favorite place to meet and eat.

    Wonderful Restaurant

I have been coming here for years. The ambiance, service, and food are very nice. Menu is intelligent, as is the wine list and choices of whiskey and scotch and cognacs. Food is good, prices reasonable, service attentive. The three Capsuto Freres are serious about what they do and they do it very well...

    Excellent

This is by far one of the nicest french restaurants in NYC. I have gone there many times, mostly for special occasions as I think it is that good. They have a pre-fixed for around $30 which includes an appetizer, main course and dessert. The wines are really exquisite and the service is impeccable. My ex-boyfriend and I toasted many a birthday in this beautiful, reasonably priced restaurant. It is off the beat and track, bordering on Tribeca/Soho. Heck, it was better that restaurants I ate in in Paris and I was there five times. You should definitely go.
