    Glad It's There

It's so nice to have a veggie restaurant like Candle Cafe in our neighborhood. I have only recently discovered it and have only tried the club sandwich, which was made with a wonderful grainy bread, and the best "faux" mayonnaise ever, on the side, along with a good cole-slaw. I also had the coconut cheesecake, which was delicious. A larger circling of their super chocolate sauce around the cheesecake would not have gone amiss...Yum! I was in the mood for tomato juice or a "V-8" -type drink, and was a bit disappointed that they didn't have a tomato juice-based drink, but I did fine with water. The service was superb--and the atmosphere friendly...though not at all "elegant" in my mind, as one reader claimed it to be. There were several small groups dining, but also many single-diners...so no uncomfortable feeling if you ask for "a table for one" there!

    Candle me!

What a treat to have this restaurant within delivery distance! The food is delicious, fresh, and makes you feel great after having eaten it. My favorites are the tofu club, which is served on a lusty thick whole grain bread with tempeh "bacon" and vegan "mayo," along with the soba noodle salad. Their guacamole is spicy and thick, though I find their chips a bit too "seasoned." Enjoy!

    Pleased overall

I went on Saturday with two other friends- one who isn't a vegetarian. We were overall pleased with the food, and the friendly service. I enjoyed the sweet potato soup, and the parmesan seitan dish that I had (can't recall exact name). The banana cake was also delightful! My only complaint, is that my cup of water was consistently empty. The servers were slow to notice that our glasses needed to be refilled. I'll return though. Overall, I was pleased and happy-- as was my meat eating friend.

    Love love love it

If you are a vegetarian and/or enjoy healthy, creative food, you will love this place. Order the Cajun Seitan Sandwhich and try the Chocolate Mousse Pie or Carrot Cake for dessert. You will not believe how good this restaurant can make healthy food taste.

    Creative Vegan Menu

I love this place. The menu has been created with thoughtfulness and creativity. Their Indian dish which is always on the menu is yummy. I've never been disappointed with any of their dishes. The staff has always been pleasant, courteous and helpful. It is a bit pricey, but does give good value. Often, I've find vegetarian/vegan restaurants lacking in diversity, but not this one. Though I am not a vegetarian, I do enjoy a well prepared dish of organic food and I love fresh veggies. They know how to put it all together and the presentation is always very appealing. The only slight negative I could mention is that it is a rather small place and the ambience lacks a certain charm. Otherwise, I heartily recommend it.

    Wow!

Candle cafe is just awesome. I've passed it many, many times and finally ate their for the first time recently. The staff are beyond friendly and helpful, and the food is delicious. My friend had a tempeh sandwich and loved it, and I went nuts over their create-your-own-dinner plate option - combine side dishes from a long list...wonderful steamed vegetables and other foods that I love to eat but am usually just way too tired to chop and cook once I get home. I ordered the bean of the day, steamed greens (escarole, kale + swiss chard) and brown rice and it was perfection! What a great experience. Highly recommend this place.

    Yummy...

I eat a Candle Cafe quite often - all the dishes I?ve tried are scrumptious. The food is full of flavor, very fresh and the portions are generous. The friendly staff is informative and accommodating. It?s probably some of the best Vegan food I?ve had in the city.
